Aura Guest House
Ranked #4 of 11 Mablethorpe B&B and Inns
Reviewed September 15, 2012

Myself and a partner stopped at the Aura Guest House in Mablethorpe near the Queen's Park. We booked in for three nights on the 6th of Sept 20112. The positives are: A cheap price, decent breakfasts, tastefully furbished, and meticulously clean. The negatives are: small room which we could put with.

However, the one big negative thing was having to vacate the premises at 10am prompt. I don't mind adhering to this on the day of departure in fact we usually leave well before that time.

On the first morning after breakfast we were disturbed by a knock on the door, my partner opened the door, it was the owner's wife who wanted to service the room, my partner told her that I was in the shower, but she seemed a bit put out. A few minute later another knock came and it was the owner with a screw driver in his hand who wanted to repair a towel rail in which I'd reported earlier, I said, why not do it now, he said, no, I prefer to do it when the room's empty, he then went onto read the riot act, so to speak: He pointed to a notice on the wall which stated that we should be out of the room by 10am. We then hurriedly got dressed and vacated the room.

On the day of departure immediately after breakfast we returned to our room at 8.30am to find that they'd been into our room, changed the bedding and removed the pillows and cups. It all seemed a bit like let's get you out as quickly as possible etc.

I have stopped at large hotels where this isn't an issue, the cleaner just asks if you want any more tea bags etc and leaves it at that.

I go on holiday to get away from a regime where I'm up 5.30am every day to my daily toil, however, I don't want another regime when I go on a holiday.

Room Tip: If you want a lie in or just want to relax in the room then don't choose this guest house

Richard and Alison are a friendly couple who have made us very welcome every time we visit. (this is our 4th time of staying with them). The breakfast is great and the rooms are very clean and well maintained. The guest house is well situated a few yards walk form the sea and close to Queens park and the town centre.

Great place to stay, lovely owners, good cooked breakfast. We will be staying again when we return to visit my sister.

Room Tip: This is a small guesthouse, yards from the beach, but a short walk from the town centre, very quiet.

Found this B&B in 2010 when we decided at last minute to visit family who had just moved to Mablethorpe. We managed to book in for August bank holiday and had two rooms. First impression was great location right by beach and close to town centre. Second impression was good for off-road parking. Third impression was how welcoming Alison and Richard were. We arrived slightly later on the Friday due to traffic but at no point did Richard or Alison indicate that they were unhappy or it was a problem. We were shown to our rooms which were lovely and clean, nice decor and well equipped. Outside was a good stocked bookshelf if you needed to grab a read. The next morning we had a lovely breakfast from a variety of good choice., nothing seemed too much trouble and my wife and Alison got into good humoured banter with Alison finally tossing what looked like a real egg at my wife but was in fact a fake. This set the weekend for our 3 night stay that was good humoured and jokey times with both Richard and Alsion. Richard and Alsion were also very helpful in giving advice on places to go. Our weekend was thoroughly enjoyable and we returned in 2011 for a 2 night stay at Easter. Richard and Alsion remembered us and again were very welcoming. if you want a nice B&B, clean, good food and good hosts you could do far worse that the Aura. on the Sunday of our visit Alison came out and gave every guest an Easter Egg as an extra nice touch. I have read one bad comment about Alison in these reviews and have to say it must be a different person to the Alison we met who was warm, jokey and welcoming...guess you can't please everybody.......We shall definately return.

Rang this guest house at short notice to request a room for one night, which was no problem to them and ready when we arrived less than a hour later. The owners were very welcoming and the room exceptionally clean and well presented. The breakfast is excellent. This is a nice place to stay with parking on the front which is very useful.
