“Nice room, fab views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2010

I stayed in the Whistledown two weeks ago for the Blues festival. It was hard to judge the entrance, as the place was quite packed. Seemed like we were walking into a pub. However, the room was lovely (once we had opened the window - bit stuffy at first). The room was very large with great views. The bathroom was modern and new. And the best thing, the room was very dark in the morning! We had a great lie-in. We ate in the restaurant, didn't have to queue for a table at all. The food was delicious and very reasonable. And the staff overall couldn't have been friendly or more helpful, both in the hotel and the restaurant.

Were in town for Blues on the bay festival and were attending the function in this hotel on Saturday night but were not resident so we were in the bar and restaurant only. They were packed with the Blues festival , and I think a wedding also. Staff very friendly. There is no booking in the restaurant so we were given a buzzer and asked to wait in the bar for 30 -40 minutes. In about 30 minutes we got the call and went to the very large and busy restaurant upstairs with a great view of the bay. We ordered 2 starters between 4 and 4 main courses, two of which were fillet steak cooked med. rare. Service was pleasant and efficient. Due to the crowds, I suspected that the steaks would not arrive as requested, but they were perfectly cooked and of good quality and substantial in size. The other two meals, one a curry and the other a chicken dish were equally well liked by our friends. We couldnt speak for all the wine prices on the list but the one we ordered was exactly as we have in Belfast if we see it on the restaurant list there and it was very much more reasonably priced so that was a bonus, except that we had an extra one and then it wasnt! We enjoyed our visit to the Whistledown on this occasion and will visit again when we won't be rushing to go to a concert and maybe sit and enjoy the beautiful view

The location of the hotel is lovely, and the decor of the bar and restaurant are really nice.... its a pity the staff did not match this!
I dined in the restaurant with 3 other friends (all late 30's early 40's) and was very very disappointed. We arrived at the restaurant just before 8pm, and we were told there would be 1 hour to wait for a table for the 4 of us. At 10pm I complained we had still not been called, and the manager told me they were very busy. He did get a table for us at 10.15pm, but when walked through the restaurant, there were plenty of vacant tables.... so obviously they forgot about us, and were not that busy.
The service was really bad, each different waitress we had did not smile, offer any help, we got the impression they just wanted us out of there as soon as poss. The food was nice but not worth waiting for. Our main course was served to us after 11pm!!
We dine out a lot and none of us would return here again, would rather spend my money somewhere else where the staff actually care!

I attended a family wedding at the hotel mid May. The staff and service was absolutely fantastic, and you could not fault it. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable and very spacious with excellent views. There was a great atmosphere in the bar and the prices of drinks were very reasonable, I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone! I would definitely stay there again if in the area.

What can I say about this Hotel from the minute you walk in the door you know you picked right. Its decor is welcoming and modern. The bar is comfortable and has a good atmosphere with really nice staff behind the bar. There was a wedding there when we arrived and it didnt effect anything with the running of the hotel. We all found everybody so friendly from the local people, the people at the wedding and the staff. We had dinner there and what can i say again food, staff were just unreal. We had a vegetrian in the group which we did not alert the restaurant to earliear but they pulled out all the stop to make sure the whole group had a great culinery expierence
To finish up if your shopping up the north, need a nite away with that special person in your life. Make a call, go on the net and make a vist to Josephine and staff.
Thanks for everything whistledown.
Keep up the good work.

THE HOTEL IS JUST TOP DRAWER. WHAT MORE CAN I SAY.

Just returned from a one night stay at this great hotel. This was a spur of the moment booking. The lady on reception was so pleasent over the phone when taking my booking to start with and when we arrived there instead of giving us the standard room she had upgraded us to a gorgeous suite overlooking the water at no extra cost. The room was large, tastefully decorated with tea/coffee making facilities and a lovely big comfortable queen sized bed. The bathroom was great with a jacuzzi bath and powerful shower and it too was wonderfully decorated. Although there is no pool etc in this hotel thats not an issue as on your door step is some of the most glorious parts of Northern Ireland you will ever see. Killbroney forest is a few miles down the road and the little town of warrenpoint is great with really friendly locals. Now back to the hotel. The restaraunt was busy but intamite at the same time with attentive waiting staff and just the right amount of time between courses. The food was yummy and the prices were very reasonable. There was no noise at night so a great sleep will be had. In the morning we had room service which costs only £3 per person. We had breakfast whilst looking out to sea at the boats coming in. On departure the really nice owner at the reception promised if we came back she would upgrade us to a suite again at no extra cost. One night cost £110 includeing a big breakfast. There is also a lovely wee bar downstairs where you can enjoy a drink of your choice whist looking at the world go by. My advice if your thinking of staying in this hotel would be....what are you waiting for? Get it booked, you wont regret it.
