“Best Sunday Lunch Ever !”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

Over from Scotland, first time in Northern Ireland for me, visiting friends and staying in Belfast and today they took us out to see the sights. We called into the Whistledown for a late lunch. It was 3.25pm and they stop taking orders for lunch at 3.30pm but nothing was too much trouble. We had the lunch which at £17.95 for 3courses & tea and coffee was a great price. The food was unbelievable I had the seafood cocktail which was beautiful, lamb which melted in my mouth the best I ever tasted cooked to perfection, with lots of veg, and the banoffee pie mmmmm. The place is beautifully decorated and the collage of the ladies head made from cutlery, bottle tops etc set in a glass panel in the floor is amazing. They had their Christmas decorations up And the lighting and decor just made the atmosphere lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was the first time there for our friends too but I am sure it wont be too long before they return. Hopefully we will be back in N.I. in the not too distant future and would certainly hope to have a return visit.

I stayed in the Whistledown this weekend and found it to be great. The room was great and the food in the restaurant was also excellent. We eat in the carbery today and the portions were plentiful and the quality was great. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I recommend this hotel to everyone!

this place is a true irish gem - you just can't get better- the photographs are far too understated. this place has everything, great for a quiet read mid week in the winter, hive of activity during the blues feastival, (this is the hub of the blues), warm and cosy for sunday lunch, hip and trendy forsaturday night date nights, the best new years eve location possible, asI I'mm a local i havent got a chance to stay the night but after having a tour of the rooms and feeling the luxurious soft furnishings, I plan to do so soon.this has been my local for 10 years, had a christening here been to weddings an many parties here, this place has the best irish welcome ever, the food is always stunning, try their fish dishes, its like eating in paris or milan without the crazy prices. As you can guess i'm a big fan. Great for watching the rugby too.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view, simply stunning.

We stayed here overnight on a driving tour of Ireland. Although the hotel doesn't have a car park there is plenty of free street parking outside the hotel. We were made very welcome at reception and noticed that the bar and outside seating area were packed with people enjoying meals which reassured us as I always think that's a good sign. Well that was definitely the case here. The room was amazing. Huge with a great bay window with views overlooking the lough and mountains. The bed was massive and one of the comfiest I've slept in and the seating area at the window was so relaxing. The bathroom was spotless and so modern with a separate excellent shower and amazing jacuzzi bath, lovely toiletries and facecloths and wee personal touches that just made it unique. We had dinner upstairs and the food and service were second to none. Many thanks to the nightshift barman who offered to make me a mug of hot chocolate at 7 in the morning when I went downstairs and then told me all the most scenic ways to go that day. Would definately recommend this hotel.

Lovely boutique style hotel located with the view over Carlingford Lough just on the edge of town, walking distance everywhere. Just tried their new pizza bar with the girls, this is an excellent night out, pizza was great and staff were very helpful. If you are passing do not drive by without taking a look in or even try it for your evening meal.

Well, my son and Irish fiancee planned their wedding at this, their favourite eating place. I had been there for meals in the past and enjoyed myself.
Wow, the wedding was such an experience. The staff, no matter how long they had been on duty, always had a laugh with you, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were so comfortable, the bed a delight to sink into and our double was spacious. My mother had a slightly larger bathroom and a 7' bed - which she loved. We both had lovely views over the sea and mountains.
Pricing was not too expensive on either the room or food or drink.
the wedding breakfast was served, food of high standard and it was all hot ! No mean feat with forty at the same time. They also cater well for those with dietrary requirements. So I would just say keep it up !

Room Tip: Higher rooms would obviously not be affected by noise from any function (i.e. the wedding I was at...

Had lunch last week with a friend. Resturant had been renovated lately looks very modern and funky. The food was as usual very tasty and served piping hot by friendly staff. Not too expensive either. My only gripe is the glass piece in the floor which you have to walk over to sit near the window overlooking Carlingford Lough. This contraption houses knives spoons etc in the shape of a mermaid!!!!!!what egit thought this up? watched people tottering round the edge of this glass avoidance almost falling over to NOT walk on it. This should be covered with a mat and let people walk normally to the seats. Will of course return the food is great but will NEVER WALK ON THAT THING.
