We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks in a big, nice and clean apartment. The food served was very poor. You could be waiting 10-15min in a line for eggs in the morning or grilled meet, when making pancakes for kids (every 3rd day) queue could be 20 min.

Positives: big pools for adults and children, spacious apartments but no kitchen equipment at all, the Pool Bar was the only place where you could get good service and delicious drinks, they were not included in all-inclusive offer (PoolBar and their staff 5+.), entertainment for kids but limited to 2 languages Polish and Russian.

Negatives: Staff is not interested in helping guests with their problems, receptionists were extremely slow, for being hotel recommended to families with children there is not much to eat for kids, food was very average, the only (one) all-inclusive bar serves crappy drinks in a plastic glasses, Bamboo Bar is a joke, you pay for drinks and still they were not able to prepare a simple drink with the right ingredients. And when you told them that this is not what you ordered they call in a manager to take a decision if you are allowed money back. As in all big hotels the run for sunbeams with madrases starts at 6 in the morning and even if it was said that chairs not used for 60 min will be cleaned away for new guests this did not happen even once during our stay.

Checked in after a short delay at reception (not unusual during our stay to have to wait a short time for front desk staff to become available) and then found our room had a double sofa bed rather than 2 singles. Went back to reception and this was rectified immediately.

We were a little disappointed to find that only 1 bar was all-inclusive, although this is well located by the pool and wasn't an issue once we had settled in. The sky bar was a nice treat on several evenings, and the pool bar had the bonus of serving beer in pints, rather than the 300ml plastic cups of the other bars. Would have preferred there to be some evening entertainment for adults, as the resort become very quiet after the pools closed.

The food was very pleasant, with meat freshly cooked in front of you, and a wide range of options to suit any taste. Staff in the dining room were very efficient and seldom allowed plates to sit finished in front of you.

The staff overall were friendly, though English is clearly not as widely spoken as in other European countries I have been to. It was nice to have the same bar staff on each bar every day so a relationship could be developed - particularly on the all inclusive bar and the sky bar.

The room was very basic, though comfortable and air conditioned with a large balcony. Free WIFI in rooms was very welcome, although I was a little nervous about the exposed wiring in the bathroom...

The pools were large and a welcome temperature, although I'm not sure exactly what purpose the life guards served other than sitting together 'admiring' the guests. Plenty of kids running around, though there is more than enough room to ensure that adults won't be disturbed. Sunbeds generally went pretty early in the morning, though plenty of space on the grass around the pools to pop towels and other things down.

Positives: Pools large and comfortable, range of food offered at meal times, friendly and relatable staff

Negatives: reception staff often slow to respond, all inclusive limited to one bar, no evening entertainment whatsoever

Overall, would recommend this resort to a family or a couple who are happy to chill by the pool, eat well and relax!

Nice spacious rooms beds are comfy and pillows , I feel thou that standards have fallen for 5* cleaning wasn't great bedding changed once in the 10 days and the pool area wasn't cleaned on the back sunbeds just the front, the other down side was no self catering equipment just glass cups and a fitted kitchen it's a first for me to have to buy mugs and a pan and plastic cultary, it's a beautiful hotel in a quite spot so great for family's yes there is not alot of English but I still enjoyed my self and so did my children.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks and booked 2 one bedroomed apartments, self-catering. I didn't realise when we booked that this was a complex of privately-owned apartments so on arrival we had to call them to meet us in Reception where we were taken to our rooms. We were originally have 4 people in one room and 2 in the other but we asked if we could do 3 in each room - which was not a problem. We also had to pay 200 Lev deposit per room which would be returned to us on departure.

The rooms themselves were furnished to a reasonable standard but there was a distinct mish-mash of crockery but there were pots, pans, hob, fridge & kettle. It was a disappointment not to have a toaster but having read some of the recent reviews, I think would should count ourselves lucky that we had the basics! The rooms were cleaned once during our 2 weeks and they weren't particularly thorough (greasy finger marks on doors, bits of food in ice box, dirty outside table, etc). The showers both leaked but we were told that they all do in Bulgaria...!

The pool areas are really nice and quite big and there are lots of sunbeds & mats (for the beds). I looked out of the balcony on our first morning at 08:00 and ALL were reserved with not a soul in sight. There are notices around the pools saying “NO RESERVE” but this seems not the case. I ended up setting my alarm for 05:45 so I could get beds for our party (which really goes against the grain). I wasn't the only person doing this at that time of the morning either!

As we were self-catering, we bought things from the hotel's supermarket. A 2 litre bottle of local beer cost 3.20 Lev compared to 0.5L for 3Lev t the pool bar, so our lunches consisted of beer & crisps! We also went to the local bakeries for local "sandwiches" (a large selection for as little as 10 Lev) and kebabs to eat round the pool.

We ate locally and found Castellos, Chuchura and Adeti to be really good. Average prices were between 80-140 Levs for 6 including drinks. We also went to Nessebar a couple of times and had a lovely meal in Plakamoto (although we didn’t get the view as it was heavily booked - so pre-book to get a sea view while you dine). It was more upmarket than the ones in Ravda and we paid 200 Lev for 6 of us, starters, mains & drinks, but £100 for 6 is not bad in my book.

We found the lifeguards and Pool Bar staff very friendly, contrary to what has already been said about them. And we found the receptionists also very friendly and helpful. Especially on our checkout when the man with our deposit didn't turn up and our transfer was waiting, as they contacted him on my behalf and arranged for him to meet me in the airport (we did get our 400 Levs back).

We would probably go back to Bulgaria but I think I'd be tempted to try and get a hotel in Nessebar.

This is a 3/low 4 star hotel by UK standards, not 5-star as claimed. Be careful when booking this hotel as the hotel only own just over 100 out of the 800 bedrooms. The rest are privately owned, so if you are not happy with your room there is little option to move rooms. Also ensure you are booking a room with a bed.... this may sound silly but many of the rooms only have a sofa-bed!!!!!! They call it a standard suite, however their website says it is an economy suite. We booked a standard suite and fought with the Hotel Reception, General Manager, local Rep and Tour Operator for over an hour to try and change our room as a sofa bed was not acceptable for a week's holiday. The fact we arrived on a Sunday also went against us as the "people who could help us didn't work on Sundays". Thankfully the General Manager found us a room that evening, with a bed and we ended up having an enjoyable holiday. There is a decent-size fridge and small kitchen area in each suite which is great, however you will need to take your own crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. They provide glasses. Housekeeping were very good and changed towels regularly. The shop on-site was great for the essentials and very reasonably priced. The pools were great, and even if you don't get a sun-bed, buy a lilo, there is plenty of space on the grass. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from shops, bars and local restaurants. Bit of a longer walk to the beach.

With regards to Ravda/Sunny Beach as a holiday destination.... If you are looking for a cheap, no-frills holiday and you like Blackpool-style bright lights, street stalls and basic food then this may be for you. If you're looking for a luxurious holiday with fine-dining restaurants then this is not for you.
