Description: The famous and historic Three Tuns Inn, (known locally as 'The Tuns') set at the top of Bishops Castle has been open since 1642! A deceptively large interior offers lounge, conservatory, snug, front bar and function room. Standing on the site of the oldest licensed brewery in the U.K, The Tuns offers modern eclectic cuisine using simple locally sourced ingredients in a happy, friendly, bustling environment and of course serves a wonderful array of real ales from the on site brewery. Pub and brewery are now separate businesses, but work very closely together to help create a truly worthwhile and memorable visit to this hidden gem of a market town, hidden away in the Shropshire hills, designated an area of outstanding natural beauty.

“An enjoyable meal and excellent beer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

We reserved a table in advance. On the Saturday evening we went staff were friendly, service was efficient and we liked the simple scrubbed table and tiled floor decor. The food was good value and often locally sourced. My husband had rib eye steak which was one of the tastiest he had eaten and I had rump of lamb which was delicious. The only niggle was the poor choice of cider especially in a county bordering Herefordshire! The beer was great although two of the Three Tuns beers were unavailable which seemed strange seeing the brewery was next door.

“a ruined pub”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

once upon a time this was a fine pub with a cosy warm atmosphere and good food. that time has GONE. the brewery is not connected with the pub anymore. the landlord admitted that he didn't care about the place as he was leaving as soon as he could. that showed big time !! even though he was standing behind the bar doing nothing he refused to take my order for drinks !! the arrogance of both himself and his miserable rude uncaring bar staff is a disgrace. there was nowhere to sit because all of the tables are used for food, yet drunken idiots are allowed to fall over right next to diners without being ejected. no atmosphere. overpriced fussy food. my wife saw the chefs in the kitchen throwing pieces of salad at each other !! we will not return until this ruined lovely old pub is taken over by someone who knows what they are doing.

“Great local brewery”

Tried the local brew here in a very cosy, friendly atmosphere. Did not get chance to eat, but the menu looked very appetising.

“shame about the service!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

4 of us (women 50+, regular visitors but not locals) called in for a beer and lunch on Saturday at 1.30pm. We got the beer, found a table and asked at the bar to order food - the sign above the bar said they served food until 2.30. We were told that they weren't taking any more orders as the kitchen was too busy. We asked about the time and were told curtly that by the time we got our food, if they took our order, it would be 2.30 anyway! We said that was fine and didn't they have anything simple like soup still available. "No you can have crisps!"
Sadly we drank our beer and got up to leave. As we passed the bar, one of the staff was asking a gentleman who had just come in, what sort of soup he would prefer!!!!
Was this because we weren't locals? - were a group of middle aged ladies? - or what? I have no idea, but with great regret will not be returning to a place where we were treated so rudely. Fortunately you can rely on a much better reception almost anywhere else in Bishops Castle and the Six Bells serves great beer.
