Beautiful small family-run hotel with lovely garden and outdoor pool, kind and attentive staff. Wi-fi a bit dodgy, not really surprising in this rural spot. Food in the restaurant is lovely, but the fact that the menu does not change is a bit of a drawback when you stay for one week, as we did. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Our room on second floor had beams not very good for tall folks

We stayed at san rocco at the end of a midweek in Istria, on our way to the airport.
A truly relaxed and relaxing setting and atmosphere. Great staff.
But what really made the visit worth it, was the dinner. Slow food at its best. We had a fish menu. Well-built, original, from local ingredients, not too heavy. More, the wines choice was ab-so-lu-te-ly fantastic. Pefect build-up from young easy white to an extremely delicate and rich, 10-year old local white. Bravo for the sommelier!

not the easiest to find but it's well worth the car ride, lovely and homely hotel which kept traces of history with its wooden beams. The service made all the difference and food is amazing.

Only cons is there is limited wifi in the room (might be an isolated incident).

We just returned from 4 wonderful nights at the Hotel San Rocco. The hotel was beautiful and utterly charming! We had dinner our first night in their hotel restaurant and it was excellent! There was a nice spread for breakfast every morning, and it was wild asparagus season so they made us eggs with the asparagus each morning! We also ate twice at the pizzeria they own in town and it was very good. The staff is friendly and helpful and the location is great for visiting the many area wineries. We loved Istria and we loved this hotel!

After reviewing my TripAdvisor reviews I saw that my absolute favorite hotel in Croatia is missing! San Rocco is top both for the hotel and the food. I love the setting, in a small village, not on the coast, very tranquil and not at all touristy. The hotel is a refurbished old typical farm/village stone house. It houses one of Croatia's best restaurants. The hotel is family run, and when I say family run just about every person that was serving us was family. There is a small spa with a sauna and a small indoor pool/jacuzzi. It is a great place for a romantic getaway or a base for exploring Istra. As I am not a great fan of the Istrian coast I would go further south in the summer, but I would definitely recommend Brtonigla and San Rocco in the spring or early autumn. Can't wait to return. One negative comment - I had recently written a mail though their website, to inquire about New Year Eve offers (this was in November) and I never got a reply, this was a slight disappointment for such a great hotel otherwise.
Don't miss the food in the hotel restaurant and trust the wine recommendations.

Beautiful small hotel in Croatian Istra. Nice people/stuff/... Excellent food. I was there with my family during a New Year and I'll come again, soon! It is near city of Novigrad/Istra, only cca 7.0 kilometer from the Adriatic sea...

As far as hotel part is concerned, the little family run establishment, one of the first and definitely still the best in Croatia, has set very high standards for both room design and kind and efficient service. Hotel's own parking lot in front big enough to accommodate a full house during the season. The wellness part in adjacent building is relatively small, though. Outside pool below the inviting small hotel terrace is nice, unfortunately water is not heated and thus it is useful only during the hot four months. Brtonigla is a few miles off the coast, so you need to drive if you want to enjoy the Adriatic water. The hotel owner (and ex-mayor) is the driving force that changed the town from a sleepy, falling apart ghost town of no relevance into an interesting and lively tourist location with several commendable eateries. And only one hotel, again a nicely rebuilt old family property keeping the centennial charm. You get complete information in the small hotel »lobby« about the ways you can explore Istria. A good starting point for biking, walking, exploring wineries and olive oil producers. Rooms traditional and not overly lavish, fine bathrooms could be a tiny bit bigger.

The small restaurant in the main building of the property seats up to 25 guests and is unarguably one of the top 10 in Croatia, top 5 in the culinary well developed Istria. Rather luxurious setup, faultless washrooms. Service faultless. Wine list covers Croatia excellently (no verticals, though), could be more extensive in the imported wines considering the high level and international spirit of the cuisine. Four different tasting menus at 50-80 EUR level (no wine included), all based on local truffles and going for either meat or fish. Cuisine is a modern approach to the Istrian traditions with notable international influence, nicely designed and perfectly prepared dishes are a delight to both the eye and the palate. 16 points out for 20. A must for a gourmet staying on the western Istrian coast. Once again, be aware that creative quality does not come cheap!
