A truly family run restaurant with family traditions and service, serving typical Istrian delicious food with good collection of wines. When you step inside you will feel as though you have entered Istrian home, surrounded by a living gallery of rustic heirlooms, pictures and keepsakes. Everything here tells a story of Istrian family’s journey.

The Konoba Astarea was recommended to us by our host in Rovinj so we had to go and eat there. After a mix up with the reservation, my fault got my days mixed up, we were welcomed by the owner. He sat with us as he went through the menu. We had already ordered "Lamb under the bell" when making the reservation as this dish takes 4 / 5 hours to slowly cook on the open fire. The mushroom soup was excellent, as was the house white and red wines. The main course, for two, would have fed 3 or 4 persons and was delicious. The meat just fell away from the bones and the potatoes and vegetable under ther meat perfectly cooked. After this lemon sorbet made with vodka and champagne. The restaurant was busy but the owner and staff treated us, and the other customers, as if we were the only people there. Finally at the end of a special evening the biggest surprise of all, this was the least expensive evening meal we had during our stay in Brtonigla for the Festival of St. Roch.

Our tour group stopped here one evening and the food was great. In the inside room (which we didn't use) was an open hearth fireplace for cooking. On the great porch (which we did use) was setting sun, fresh breeze, good food, wine and service and the owner even provided some proseco to celebrate an anniversary for one of our tour members. Its all alone on a highway, don't drive too fast or you will miss it, and that would be a shame. Parking in front and across the road.
