“Konoba Astarea Brtonigla, Istria”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Fish fish fish ( although there is meat too) ! Great food and atmosphere, keep on going back when I do not want to experiment and go for a sure thing ! Good value for money. Food prepared on "ognjisce", (o:gneeshche), sort of Istrian fire place once upon a time used also for cooking. Food baked under metal bell, called "peka", p e:k a: is Astarea speciality. This is done in the the room where everybody eats and contributes to the great atmosphere and increases your appetite :-). Good wine list too and very decent house wine. Among other things had glorious cuttlefish which is in season at the moment.

Perfect food, perfect atmosfere, I love this place, Anton and his family are super and let you feel like a king. Try the baccala' mantecato, risotto black and the cappesante, they are the best ever.

“Simply amazing and back to basics fish/seafood”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

You don't need 100 different spices to make a dish taste good. Here, its simply fish and seafood. Fresh, tasty.. REALLY tasty and for a fair price. The owners will make you feel at home and if you observe the gardelles closely, you may just learn how to make great fish yourself. We will most definitely return again and again!

“Best dinner of our entire weekend trip!”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

4 of us drove to Croatia for the weekend to celebrate Truffle Days in Livade. We stayed in Motovun. We ate (and drank) truffle everything, which was of course amazing. On the way home we stopped at the Konoba Astarea, a restaurant recommended by Rick Steve's. We had an enormous, absolutely delicious several course meal with heart regional foods: squid, shrimp, homemade fish pate and anchovies, black risotto with squid, salad, roasted vegetables and a huge Dorado cooked in a pot on the fire grill in the center of the restaurant. Nino and his wife Alma are the owners, and their kids help out. Nino pulls a chair up to your table and is able to chat in a few languages about what you're hungry for. He named so many things we finally just said to give us whatever he thought we'd like and we were not disappointed. The fish was so meaty, service excellent, wine, grappa and ice cream crepe for dessert. Lovely couple. We will definitely go back, by far my favorite restaurant of the entire weekend.

“Great evening in Astarea”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We have been going to Astarea for the past 7 years and we have never had a bad experience. On the contrary the food is fantastic. Yesterday we had as a starter scallops and black risotto - both delicious, followed by sea bass. The food is excellent value.
