“Kind of expensive for....”

First of all I have to say that David it's a great guy! He even let us borrow his digital camara because I busted mine. The room was very clean but the place (grounds) are not well keeped. Don't expect a view of any kind and be prepare for a long walk to the beach. I booked this place because there was nothing else available an even thou I knew that probably did not have Wi-fi I forgot to check if it had a TV which it does'nt so if you can't get a signal in your phone you are incommunicated while you are here (no phone in the rooms). There's no pool so if you are not willing to walk 20 mnt to and from you have to get in the car to get to water. If you decide to stay in your room an cook in the kitchennette you better have all your groceries because you have to drive a good 10 to 15 mnts each way in a winding road
to get to the nearest store. If you like to be away from it ALL this may be the place for you but I like to have some more confort and ammenities for $110.00 a night, this day are some great bargains out there!

If you want a place to TOTALLY relax and let go, Mimi's is the place to go. This is our third year back and it's not going to be the last. We love David, the host. He is helpful, warm and very generous with his time. We love "Amelia," the name of our room we stay in every year. It's clean, funky and has everything you need as do the other two rooms. We love the location. Mimi's is at the end of a long winding road" and is very quiet except for the morning birds and wonderful sounds of nature. David will tell you of all the wonderful places to go visit and eat and may even go with you. There's a "secret" beach that is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the place and if you don't feel like walking then there are other beautiful beaches very close by. Guanica is a sleepy town that looks like there is nothing to do but the weekends are hopping and there is one particular local restaurant, "The Blue Marlin" that has delicious native dishes and very reasonable. If you feel like venturing out there are some great restaurants within a 15 or 20 minute car ride.
So, make your reservations now and don't think another minute about it.

We unfortunately were unable to stay at Mimi's Guest House because it was full. However, we took a trip from Ponce to Guanica and got to meet David. He very graciously allowed us to park at the guest house and took us on a twenty minute walk to the most amazing and secluded beach. He also gave us a fantastic lunch recommendation. Lunch at Carlitos Kitchen and Bar in Ensenada was unbelievable. I had a grouper filet and my husband had the conch salad. Our day spent in Guanica was a highlight of our trip and we have David to thank for that. We will most certainly book a room at Mimi's Guest House on our next Puerto Rican vacation.

We're returning next year. Mimi's feels like home, and David's huge love for his corner of Puerto Rico is contagious. The dreamy walk to the beach, the funky decor, David's hospitality: the whole package is super. Some other reviewers seem a little fussy to me. That's okay, we'll take their room.

We booked our stay with Mimi's based on the rave reviews from TripAdvisor, however, we were a bit disappointed with our stay. The pro of the place is certainly its location- the guest house is a 20 minute walk down a private path to a wonderful isolated beach with mangroves. The kitchen was large and spacious. The space for cooking was appreciated since the neighboring guesthouse Mary Lee's by the Sea had limited kitchen space and still charged much more. Another positive piece is the owner/caretaker of the property. He was super kind and accommodating and flexible with his dealings.

The con of the place was the room was not clean. There was mold on some of the cook ware (AHHHHHH); windows and walls were covered in dust and dirt. Bedding and linens were clean, but the bathroom was not adequately cleaned (visible toilet bowl rings and moldy shower.) The property had great potential, but it was falling into disrepair, which is sad since the place reflects the ownership. The owner was concerned with us having a good time almost as he was concerned with himself having a good time. Hopefully he can balance beers on the beach with fixing fences and cleaning the place.

Not a bad choice for people on a budget, but make sure your expectations are in order and you don't mind biting flies (No See Ums?).

Mimi's guesthouse is just what we needed. We slept so well in our breezy room and loved eating breakfast on our porch each morning. The beaches in Guanica are so so beautiful and we could walk or drive a mile or two to many different ones, often being one of few people on the beach if not the only one. This was the highlight and we spent most of our time laying on the sand and swimming in the blue green water. The town of Guanica is a sweet and non-overly developed area with good seafood restaurants and fun bars. David, the owner of the guest house, is a fun guy who will share with you some great tips and secret spots in the neighborhood.

This place is perfect for the laid-back traveler looking for quality beach time and casual good times.

Admittedly, the guest house proprietor was sick with the consequences of dengue fever, so consider that while reading this review. That was the third thing he mentioned after saying "hello" and "your room is over there."

We arrived later than we had expected, so the property and the drive to the guest house are quite dark. The proprietor indicated that he'd just cleaned out the room (which made me question why it would be necessary if you were maintaining a clean guest house). The room (Amelia) smelled stale, but I attribute that to the palm fronds used on the ceiling and the carpets. It smelled a bit like pigeon droppings, and it took a couple of days to get used to.

The proprietor was sick, but he stressed that he "wanted to be there for you". He did make recommendations for activities, but I would not recommend going on the 15 minute hike to the beach through scrub, past a dead turkey buzzard which had sacrificed itself on power lines and, more importantly, through a 20 foot by 60 foot rat burrow. They were not crab holes, as he suggested after we mentioned it to the proprietor. I saw the rats, and it was gross. He also said that he'd considered cancelling our reservation because of his illness. I might have preferred that.

He did recommend a wonderful place for lunch though, Carlito's, which is outside of Guanica.

The room itself was clean if not a little worn. Books were very dusty on the book case and there was a lot of dust on the ceiling and the light fixtures. The air conditioner worked, but the proprietor backhandedly scolded us for running it at night on our first night. It was a stuffy first floor room. The room was bug free, which was a plus. A lizard got in once, but it was entertaining trying to coax it out.

There were no other guests in the house, so it was kind of weird having the place all to ourselves in November.

Overall, it was clean and safe. The price was pretty steep for what we got.

Room Tip: I would imagine that the room on the second floor would have been less dank smelling.
