Owner description: The Guánica State Forest & Bioshpere Reserve (Bosque Estatal de Guánica, in Spanish) is an great example of a dry forest, as compared to the rain forests found elsewhere on the island. Covering almost 1,000 acres, it has been designated as a United Nations International Biosphere Reserve. The forest offers many well-maintained trails and is a bird-watcher’s paradise.

“Dry Forest”

Interesting to see, but lots of trash. Ocean views are spectacular when the waves are up and crashing into the rocks. Cactus are neat to look at and you would hate to get to close too.

“You got to go there to experience.”

We hiked all around, very doable trails. Not too long, not too short, about three miles. Please bring a light rain jacket since it could rain any time.

“go early”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

The gate doesn't open until about 8, 8:30. To have any hope of seeing wildlife and/or birds, park at the bottom of the hill, outside the gate, and walk up. By the time the gate opens, it is too hot to expect to see anything of interest.
