Owner description: The Guánica State Forest & Bioshpere Reserve (Bosque Estatal de Guánica, in Spanish) is an great example of a dry forest, as compared to the rain forests found elsewhere on the island. Covering almost 1,000 acres, it has been designated as a United Nations International Biosphere Reserve. The forest offers many well-maintained trails and is a bird-watcher’s paradise.

“Extreme Mountain Bike heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

For mountain bikers, the Dry Forest can be challenging. We took a particular route, 5 miles up hill and ended around playa Tamarindo overlooking the cliffs. Absolutely breathtaking in all sense of the word. Challenging to any level but very rewarding at the end, soaking up at the beach.

“Wet your appetite for beauty in the dry forest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2012

My sister and I have visited the dry forest in Guanica twice now, once in August 2011 and again in June 2012. Both times, we were facinated by the desert flora and how different the flora is from the North side of the island. The beaches are breathtaking. There is really no way to describe the beaches with words. You must see them. The walk from Playa Tamarindo into the dry forest is about 15-20 minutes down a well--marked path. You will walk over brain coral, see iguanas, melon cactus, and other interesting organisms, Take a bottle of water, wear sunscreen and a hat. It is HOT!

“Fine hike, not much to see”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2012

We got to the dry forest about an hour before closing and were limited by our hiking options, but did a 45 minute loop that took us to a small overlook. It was a fine hike for the sake of hiking, but it didn't stand out a a must do activity.

Interesting area to visit while in PR. Make sure you do it in the morning or prepare to sweat. Good hiking trail.
