“Our favorite place in Puerto Rico”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

We have been to Puerto Rico maybe 5-6 times, all over, including Culebra. But this is our favorite place as a family. It is quiet, and has much natural beauty around. You can take the boat or kayak to Gulligan Island or there is a nice beach nearby which is almost empty during the week. These beaches are MUCH busier during weekends. The units each have their own character but they are all furnished in a unique way that can be only described as "frayed island chic" - really charming. Our favorite unit is Tranquila because it is large and has another level above it, so it always reasonably cool. I have to say that staying in the units which are not part of the main complex makes the experience considerably worse. Tip: You absolutely have to visit the Cabo Rojo lighthouse, and the adjacent beach. This is what tropical paradise is all about. But again - avoid the weekends at all costs.

I went with the family in a weekend, and we stayed in Sirena #1 AND #2. We switched rooms since in Sirena #1 there wasn't enough rooms for the 6 of us, so they moved us to Sirena #2. Very big, 3 rooms, and all have A/C, with a kitchen and living room and a 'deck' that looks out to Gilligan's Island.
Now, the bad things are that when we were going to sleep, we saw mouse excrement in the bed sheets and pillows, so we had to do a major bed sheet change and sleep with towels on our heads or even like sheets. I got out at once to get a glass of water, and sat in the living room, and I saw with my own eyes a little mouse go through the kitchen and hide under the counters of the kitchen.
We woke up at 7:30am to go to Gilligan's Island with the surprise that at the moment a tropical storm was passing by, so the Island closed. Two days lost.
We told the owner or manager, I don't remember her name and don't even want to, about the mouse excrement on the bed sheets and the mouse, but just didn't seem to care about it, so we payed the two days (Friday and Saturday) and ended up in Isabela, losing two days of a weekend we planned perfectly.
The counters of the kitchen of Sirena #2 were painted with some yellow-peach kind of color, and also some lamps and even a clock were painted with that same color.
The place was very far from the city, with a narrow and curvy road to get there, and at night it was very dangerous since there were no poles in the way.

This place is amazing! I don't know where to start in describing it but the pictures on her website do not do this place justice. We stayed in the Encanto (#5), absolutely amazing. The decorations were adorable and well thought out, the kitchen and shower were HUGE and it has it's own private deck right on the sea. The kitchen is fully equipped to make a meal and the place is very clean! The staff is so friendly and we got to speak with Mary Lee herself. They have kayaks available to rent and the atmosphere is just very open and laid back. Worth looking into!

Room Tip: We loved the Encanto #5

Quaint, very cozy, very quiet location. Far into the Island...the only entertainment is Gilligan's Island. Very spacious but restaurants very far.

Room Tip: Go here ONLY if you want to relax, nothing to do and far from restaurants and other activities. A l...

If you are planning a fun yet relaxing time well this has it, the great views, the morning coffe with gilligan island as your neighbor. It does have a rustIc kind of theme and there is no internet no tv and very poor celphone reception so it really was our perfect place to disconect from everything and just be us with nature! We stayed at Tranquila, it has two bedrooms with ac,a full kitchen even with microwave and an awesome balcony/deck. Don Luis was our private captain and took us to the famous gilligan island but if you really want to admire the whole beauty of the island I recomend to see it by kayak you will not regret it trust me!

Room Tip: Choose Tranquila, is the greates view from all!

Stayed at the "Encanto" #5 the very first unit, at the bottom of the complex, unit looks cute but from day one we found out the place was full of roaches. I've never seen something like that, I actually bought a fogger and put it on the unit, after one hour, we found dozens and dozens of roaches in the entire unit.

Also, all the noises and voices from the room upstairs are heard in that unit, it's awful! We couldn't stay relaxed for a minute, loud people, all the steps from upstairs are heard downstairs.

I wasted my memorial weekend! After planning for months I ended up coming back to San Juan and staying for the rest of the weekend.

Very dissapointed.

We are so sorry about your experience, I yes, there was a problem. I do wish you had advised us of the issue the first day, and we could have tried to resolve it. Sometimes being at waters edge does provide some challenges.
