I am currently staying at the Utioia resort and spa, i am travelling with my family and 2 children aged 11 months and 9 years. The hotel is modern and very stylish, i am very fussy when it comes to places being clean and this hotel is spotless. I feel totally relaxed here, the pool area is fantastic, sunbeds have padded cushions and large sun shades which suits my family. The staff are very helpful, nothing is too much trouble. We have a room which is facing the garden area which is good as the room is cool. Air conditioning is great, This hotel is simply a lovely place!
Katelious is a small villiage but it has lovely seafood resturants and a couple of stylish bars. Scala is very close by so if you wanted to see more of the shops you can simply go there. If you are looking for a stylish ,very clean, relaxing break away you wont go far wrong here.

Room Tip: family rooms are a great size

We stayed at the Utopia in June 2011 and enjoyed our stay so much we returned this year in July despite some trepidation regarding the current Greece crisis. We were pleased to find nothing had changed. The staff were excellent, every where is spotless. The 3 pools were superb. We had a pool/sea view room and every morning we watched the staff wash around the pool area and the pool man clean and check the water. Despite the hotel being full it never seemed that way and there was never a shortage of sun beds and parasols. The pool area was in sun almost all day. Katelios town is not the prettiest place on the island and the beach isn't exactly golden sand but it is a safe beach with shallow water with a break water. There are plenty of tavernas along the sea front if you fancy a change from the hotels value for money buffet type dinner.
If you need a car the best value we found was at Panem just a few hundred yards down the road from the Hotel, but you will need to book at high season. Overall we had a super couple of weeks again. If we could change anything it would be coffee/tea making facilities in the room please, a more varied selection of music playing at the pool bar(I think I know every track of Adeles last album word for word) and one last thing, if you don't like a hard bed ask for a soft mattress. :-) :-)

The small village of Katelios in southern Cefalonia is well worth the beautiful 2 hr bustrip across the island. We arrived in the beginning of July, and there were almost no tourists.
Mosquitos and small biting flies can destroy your holiday unless you protect yourself. Protection can be bought in the mini-market in the village (they seemed to sell evertyhing you could wish for!)
We were two lady friends who had asked for a twin room (separated beds) but we got a double bed.On arrival we asked for another room but we got no answer to that during our 1-week stay. The advertised Hamam did not exist, neither did the warm-stone-spa. The spa and massage was a great disappointment with flooded floors and no AC.
6 out of 12 of the electric devices in our room (lamps, contacts) as well as the lamps in the elevator were out of order. The surroundings and staff's friendliness made us not complain further.
We loved the mountain view with beautiful sunrises and sunsets from our balcony!
We would have appreciated a place for drying our towels and bikinis on the balcony.
The cleanliness in our room was impeccable and the 3-courses-a-day all-inclusive menu was very good.
The wine and beer offered in the hotel were not good at all. We went out to get drinks in the evening.
The walk to the beach takes about 7 minutes (slope downhill on the way to beach). We discovered that there were many nice little hotels right on the beach that we might have preferred, but they were not available when booking from Sweden.
We are true art-lovers and found the architecture of this 60-room hotel somehow grotesque. The lovely lunches on the veranda by the pool will never be forgotten!
All-in-all we had a super-week. If I go back to Katelios I will choose a hotel which is closer to the beach. The beach with it's many nice cafés and restaurants is the place to be in this tiny village,a perfect place for families and middle-aged persons.

Room Tip: Mountain view-rooms are underestimated! Very nice but not 5 *.

The Hotel Utopia is approx 1 hr 40 mins from the airport, however the drive is wonderfull with some fantastic views of the island. The Thompson reps were very helpful, cheerful and welcoming, and dealt with all arrangements professionally and efficiently, especially our rep Sue :)
Upon first arrival, we were very impressed with the overall look of the Hotel Utopia. Reception was very welcoming, and it was lovely and cool! And we were personally shown to our room.
When we booked our trip, we specifically requested a 'Twin Room' however we were given a room with a double bed (not two beds pushed together) we immediately spoke to reception and explained that we were a 'Mother and Daughter' and wanted seperate beds. We couldn't be happier with the promptness of the action taken by the hotel, they gave us another room on the same floor immediately which ended up being a family room with one double and one single bed, which was huge!! with Air con which was a saviour in the 40'c heat :)
The pool area is one of the best we have ever come across, it's spotlessly clean, loads of sunbeds (no rush in the morning) and is very quiet, and very relaxing.
The staff couldnt do enough for us, always smiling and going that extra mile to ensure your happiness, nothing was too much for them, the rooms were serviced everyday to a very high standard.
The backdrop of the hotel is superb, it is not overlooked by any other hotels and has wonderful views of the mountains behind, it's very romantic and can understand why there were many couples staying here.
There were a few children, (not many) but again the staff were great from what we saw with regards to giving these families everything they needed.
Katelios village is a very quiet but friendly place, there are many tavernas to choose from approx a 7 min walk downhill from the hotel, these tavernas were all very friendly and lots of fresh local fish was being served daily.
Admittedly the beach is not one of the best in the area, but as the pool was so amazing we didnt feel that we needed to visit it.
We would absolutely recommend the Hotel Utopia for couples and families.
There are however only two downsides....
1. The beds are extremely firm, we were lucky to have mattress toppers and would recommend requesting these upon arrival.
2. All of the rooms contain Spa baths that have showers in them. This is not appropriate for anyone with mobility issues as you have to climb over the side of the bath to get to the shower, the floor of the bath is ridged so difficult to stand in whilst taking a shower. A major oversight in our opinion, other than that the bathrooms are very modern and extremely clean.

We will definately be coming back :)

Room Tip: Ensure that you are VERY clear if you are requesting a twin room, as they apparantly see Twin rooms the same as a double room :) Seperate beds please! Request mattress toppers for the beds.

We returned from a weeks stay at the hotel last Thursday, the hotel is simply fantastic!!

On arrival we were checked into our large room within minutes and we were very happy with the room and also the mountain view, in fact we found the mountain view to be better as it gets some restbite from the relentless sun in the afternoon.
The room was spotlessly clean and was cleaned to the same high standard every day we were there. The jacuzzi bath was great! Although, I do have to admit that it was a little akward when taking a shower, but nothing to complain about at all really.
The food at breakfast was adequate, although it would have been nice to have someone cooking fresh eggs. All the food was fresh every day and there was more than enough choice. I recommend using the jar of coffee as it tastes a damn site better than what was in the urn!
Lunch by the pool was lovely and I am pleased to say it was the same price as outside the hotel, so most people ate there, why bother walking in 40* heat! Plenty of choice and again all fresh.
The same goes for evening meals, we were b&b but ate I the hotel twice, once in the restaurant and once having room service. My food was cold once and as we found the whole week, the staff were fantastic and refused to let me pay for it!
All of the staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble all with a smile too. I don't thinking have ever stayed somewhere where the staff were so happy and friendly at anytime of the day.
The ONLY negative we have about the hotel is the lack of wifi in the rooms etc. the signal was very weak and took us 4 days to download a movie! Would be great if they could extend the wifi all around the hotel.
The location is great, only 5 min walk to beach and tavernas too. Bus stop to Skala right outside and also second drop off for Thomson guests which was a huge bonus with the winding roads.

Thomson - Our rep from the airport was useless to say the least and she really wasn't interested in anything. The rep in resort was oaky, but considering she had been there 6 years, she wasn't forthcoming with information really. The trips were glossed over and not enough info given. We went to Argostoli and also on the Sun Crusie, both of which I would highly recommend, great value and most enjoyable. On the Sun Cruise, make sure you take a t shirt to cover up, as you are on the beach for over two hours and iris HOT! We were not told this by our rep and as a result we ended up getting a little more sun than we wanted!
Katelios is a lovely little town with enough tavernas etc to choose from. Money canbe exchanged at the car hire shops and also at the Utopia hotel, so no need to panic about no ATM in resort. I person,ly don't think you need a car, if you chose Katelios in first place you are looking to relax, not go looking for something more!
We are looking to go back again in September as we enjoyed it so much, please do not listen to any negative reviews, it really is beautiful and a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Mountain view!!
