Just returned after a 2 week stay and have to say that you would have to search and travel hard to find better. The hotel is lovely but what really makes this place truly excellent is the staff. Throughout the day Dennis (who always puts the needs of the guests first) , the girls in the bar, Miro (Dimitar) and the chef's never stop in making your holiday truly memorable.
The Greek nights were very good but just remember it is 3 courses and as much as you can eat so take it easy. The Greek and BBQ nights are buffet style but are normally served to you however this did not happen in the 2nd week so guests who were attending the evening for the first time proceeded to attempt to load up both starter and main on a tiny starter plate. (The mains plates which are huge were underneath the main course counter).
Drinks are pricey especially the wine but remember the hotel does have to pay the extortionate taxes where as the local bars etc ‘avoid’ it so can afford to offer it cheaper.
Katelios is a lovely beach side village with a handful of taverna’s and a couple of cocktail style bars. The mood is relaxed and easy and you won’t struggle to find good choices. Shops are limited to a couple of supermarkets and a kiosk but you can take the boat taxi to Skala which is good fun.
We hired a boat from the sea front (Sea Breeze) and had a great day. The owner shows you everything you need to know and takes you out first to make sure you are OK and then it’s off to any secret cove or secluded private beach you wish. My tip would be to turn right out of the harbour which is far more prettier but just ask the owner and he will tell you.
We also took a jeep safari with Elements who’s owner and our driver was George. He really was brilliant and very knowledgeable of the Island. He took us to find the wild horses and within a couple of hours of ascending the 2nd highest mountain in Greece he found them. We managed to get some great pics. He then took us to an abandoned village that was toppled in the earthquake of 1953 and although sad was very interesting to see how the residents of the Island use to live. We then went for a private lunch in a Taverna then on to the beach for some private time where the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin was made.

This was a great holiday and the Utopia is a great place to stay. My only negative comments would be that the beds are so hard you will struggle to get a good nights sleep. The other challenge is trying to stand in the bath whilst having a shower.

PS. Thank you Dennis (Kaka)

This hotel is amazing, very clean and modern. I can only fault the intermittent wi fi, but this is not the hotels fault.
The staff are very friendly especially Miro the bar tender and Dom the waiter/porter.
The food is great value for money, even if the menu could maybe have some more dishes added.
The hotel is probably more suited to young couples and families with older children.
All in all it is a laid back friendly hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Just returned from a further visit to the Utopia with my family. Our first visit was this time last year when the hotel had just opened. We were delighted to find that the hotel is still as good and it was great to meet old and new staff. The introduction of the 'Greek nights' is a welcome change with excellent food and entertainment on both occasions. Also available at the hotel is a half board option.
We also all visited the spa and had three different treatments. Be warned that the neck, shoulder and back massage is not for the faint hearted but incredibly therapeutic.
I am sure we will be back next year!

My family have just had a weeks stay at this hotel and have had the most amazing time. The hotel is very well looked after and the staff are so friendly and helpful. This hotel is a little gem and you just feel like you are in a five star hotel. In the town itself there are some lovely tavernas and we ate in Katelios Taverna every night - give this one a go for food and you wont be disappointed the food and staff are amazing. The taverna is just past Captain Jerrys.
There are no cahpoints nor do the shops take credit or debit cards so you either need to bring cash or euro travellers cheques. The hotel staff will tell you that ther is no exchange in the resort but there is. If you walk down to the beach there is a shop on the left that offers boat trips and tourist advise - they also exchange euro travellers cheques, the lady that is in there in the afternoon is called Rhona and she is a great character and very knowledgable.
Cannot fault this holiday at all what a place and the people are so friendly a big hello to Dennis who was in the restaurant.
Please please support the local businesses though as they are struggling to stay open not only due to the Greek economy but also because the travel operators are not supporting them.

Enjoy

Superb hotel with a staff, or perhaps team, which goes the extra yard to ensure that you are well looked after at all times. We didn't try the spa but heard that it too is superb (several areas are free.) Prices can be expensive now but the Hotel has implemented 'Happy Hours' etc and does try to react to any other suggestions.
The resort is very small and if a two week holiday is planned, claustrophobia may set in! Plan your trips at the Panem office on your way into the village. Rhona is unbelievably good at at making sure you get to where you want to go even if a minimum of people have booked. Prices are excellent and you save a great deal against the charges of the large tour operators.

Just arrived back from Utopia and have to say it has been one of the best hotels we have stayed in. A four star hotel which is quiet and relaxed and not stuffy! The best parts of this hotel is the size - not too big so giving excellent service to all the people staying there. We loved our family room for three it was spacious and had an excellent bathroom, the maids came in every day with towel changes througout the week and the sheets changed once in the week. The staff are very friendly and work hard so you are comfortable. The hotels restaurant was very good we ate there three times in the week,
we also went to Jerrys around the corner - not captain jerrys - we found this excellent food with very friendly staff - we would not recommend captain jerrys maybe we hit on a bad night!! We had a really relaxed and quiet week at Utopia and would definately return.
We also hired a great car from Venus excellent service and would recommend, again just around the corner from the hotel.

We have just returned from the Hotel Utopia and can honestly say it is a beautiful hotel with excellent facilities but, its 'jewel in the crown' is the service you get from the staff. The staff are gracious and genuinely wish to please the guests. There is one member of staff that deserves a special mention and that is Miro (barman), he was so helpful and pleasing and we found him to be a great help with where to go etc on our tour of the island (by car). It was our first visit to Kefalonia and the hotel and its location suited us as it was, on the whole, a more peaceful and tranquill location after visiting some of the other resorts. The pool area of the hotel is first class consisting of three pools with plenty of sunbeds and parasols to go around. If we ever decide to return to Kefalonia in the future we would definately return to the Hotel Utopia.
