“animal lovers beware!”

Apartment was excellent and Katelios still as delightful as ever. However, found Sue unhelfpful and rude (so did others in our party). Pool looked nice but sun beds were dirty and could do with replacing - couldn't see any sign of breakfast menu as advertised!

Unfortunately, there was continual barking from the dog at the adjacent Venus Car Hire. This was not surprising as the poor animal was chained up all day without exercise or human contact in a concrete yard, It was clearly very distressed, and the owner completely ignored it. You might like to bear this in mind when comparing different car hire firms.

If you want simple, clean and overall a quiet place to stay then this is it. This is a small complex of apartments about half a mile out of Katelios and is in a idyllic location set among olive groves. Sue is the perfect hostess who (with Louise) goes out of her way to make you feel welcome.
Katelios is a small village with six tavernas on the sea front. The food and particularly the fish is exceptional and very good value for money. A twwo course meal for two including drinks and wine is around 40 euros. Overall Kephalonia appears to be quite unspoilt. Outside the capital Argostoli, there was little traffic and it is possible to park the car and swim in secluded coves that are completely deserted. If you want a holiday to relax and recharge, and also see some stunning scenery, this is the place.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the upper floor

If all you need is somewhere to cook and sleep, as we did, this is just the place with a little more to offer. Our room was basic, as were the cooking facilities, and although well used it was clean and well kept. So if you have experience of Greek accommodation you will not be disappointed here and will agree their rating is well deserved.
Once you leave your room there is a relaxing bar and pool area with friendly, informative and helpful staff. The beech and taverna's are only a short walk away (take a small torch as a short section of the walk is not lit at night) and the local shop is literally over the road.
Overall, the Mythos Apartments were exactly what we expected and needed.

We had read so many positive reviews about these apartments, and were consequently so disappointed. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful but the apartment itself was awful! Tiny, dingy and not very clean. Bright strip light with no lamps. The bathroom had literally just enough space to stand between the toilet/sink/shower, rusty fixtures, mouldy shower curtain and and loose, unfixed grill on the floor which revealed a murky, smelly drain. The terrace was also tiny, with rusty outdoor furniture and a broken umbrella. The worst thing was the noise heard from other apartments due to the low quality of the building itself, we could hear our neighbours using the toilet! Every day we went out leaving all the windows and door locked for security, only to come back each day to find the cleaner had left the window wide open for anyone to come and steal our things. The pool area was ok but not enough sun loungers and it is right next to the main road. The resort of Katelios was lovely, and I would return there but never to these apartments.

Warm welcome on arrival from Sue (More on Sue later). The rooms are typical Greek, clean and simply no more needed. The pool is clean and never to busy but not enough sun beds (thats the only negative). The quiz night is a laugh we finished last on the first week but worth it as won the gummy bears and by the second week had improved to second. A must to do is the Greek night on Fridays as Jackie prepares some lovely salads, Androus cooks the meat and well Sue just gets the party mood going with the Kids dancing , then the Mums and yes even us Dads managed a form of Zorba around the pool. So dont be shy get up have fun and make an evening to remember we did. Mythos is a good location to explore Katelios and its quite and typical relaxed greek feeling makes for a very relaxing holiday.
A big hello to David, Jackie and Emily Haydock, Adam and Marrie for being great company during our stay and finally a big thank you to Sue for being a great host and making our Ryan so welcome are he would say Wehay Booooo.
Hope to see you in 2012 and if you are going go to the Greek Night the food is great and plenty of it

Firstly we loved Katelios - very quiet, laid back, rural and friendly. Kefalonia was also a fabulous place for a holiday.

The Mythos was just about ok. We got the feeling the owners had stopped spending money on it, probably due to the Greek economic crisis?

The good points are the excellent staff, very nice pool, location and stunning views.

Improvements should be made in a few areas -
Firstly the very, and I mean very, uncomfortable beds and settee mattresses, they were just old and very hard.
Nowhere near enough of the also uncomfortable sunbeds, I think there were 21 beds for the 19 room complex, as a result you get people putting towels out on 'their' beds at 11 oclock at night ready for the next morning.
Cutlery, pots and pans, glasses etc were a mix match of allsorts, take a tin opener if you think you'll need one.( I know we weren't in a 5* hotel but our kitchen area didn't have a plug, so we had to move the kettle to the bedroom?)
Some of the patio areas on the ground floor were a bit overgrown and needed a lick of paint. We were glad to be on the upper floors.
Lots of the garden furniture had also seen better days as had the un-usable sloping but thankfully free pool table.

I hope I don't seem to be endlessly complaining , there was just a feeling the Mythos could be so much better if they made a few improvements to its tiredness.

A word of warning - if you have an evening flight, you're unable to pay to keep your room until later in the day, check-out is 10am. Luggage then has to be left outside in the bar. At leaving time everyone (about 16 of us) had to use the tiny shower room to freshen up, with cold water.
I'd of thought the owner would have made a few quid if the option to keep the room was available.

A tip or two - we usually hire a car but decided on using Panem Tours which was on the road to the beach. Good value and pick up point is the Mythos.
Lots of people used Venus car/moped hire next door which they all recommended.
Try Dreams bar - walk to the beachfront then walk left along the beach until you find the wooden 'bridge', a few steps later and you'll see the bar up on the left. It's a great cafe with a fab view.

If you've booked th Mythos already, I think you'll probably enjoy it, we booked it because it was a bargain and though it was tired, it was still a bargain.

If you've not booked yet, other apartments may be a better choice.

Hope the review helps.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor.

A smallish complex, very clean and tidy with fantastic staff. We had the smallest apartment, No5, and apparently some people complain about it. I don't know why, it has a double bed, a fridge, a kettle and a bathroom, what more do you need on holiday?

Although we were delayed in arriving, it was about 1am, the bar had been kept open and a welcome drink was waiting when we were ready (thanks Sue)

We would certainly go back.
