“An embarrassing excuse for a restaurant”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

We would never go back to Monroes. The tables were sticky to touch. The little packet of butter served with the bread was cut in half. The food was disgraceful and no welcoming smiles come with the service. The whole experience was one to forget. Dont waste your money going to this restaurant.

“Average value for money”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

If you can get a new joint then the meat should be good but overall the food tends to be overcooked and the wine is not good. I think the Moriara venue is tired and is in need of an overhaul, plus they need to concentrate on providing smaller quantities of fresher vegitables etc. to ensure a decent quality. There are also plenty of good cheap Spanish wines available.
In summary, it's cheap but not necessarily cheerful. If you want to visit Monroes, best go to one of the newer ones.

“Big portions but not much style”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Went here with a big group of people about a year ago... the portions are huge and you can eat pretty much all you want. It's a bit of an ex-pat favourite... the food was OK, it's a bit like a 'toby carvery ' style. Not a pretty location but good for a hangover cure. Food was a bit 'school dinner' style.

“Disappointing - The roast is on par with school dinners. The only saving grace was a good atmosphere.”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

This was our first roast since moving to Javea and it was a huge disappointment.

The veg selection was poor. The carrots were boiled to death, as were the peas. The roast potatoes were barely identifiable - I suspect they were done in a deep-fat fryer.

The gravy was tasteless and the beef was over-cooked.

My guess is that the chef is Spanish and has never experienced a proper English roast.

I really resent paying good money for bad food, luckily this place is so cheap it's kind of irrelevant! Having said that I'd rather pay a bit more and actually enjoy the food.

It's really frustrating that making a good roast is so easy but they get it so wrong. Someone should tell the chef to read one of Jamie Oliver's cookbooks!

Plus points were the friendly owner, atmosphere and rhubarb crumble but I think I'll cook my own roast next time!

“COULD DO BETTER”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Good value, but quality not as good as Monroes in Benidorm or Pediegeur.
Have been informed that food is fresh at these restaurants.
