Me and my siblings sent my parents to French Island for a Christmas present - what do you get people who have everything they need or want? I thought it could go either way, a shambles or a great fun trip. I was encouraged by the reviews which all said Phil was very helpful. My parents absolutely loved it, and also came back raving about Phil as being a genuine guy who was very helpful and accommodating. For example, the ferry to get there was late, and Phil rang to let my parents know that, so they weren't just standing at the end of the jetty for an hour; instead they went and had a coffee. The accommodation was not flashy obviously but importantly clean. My parents had a great time and I highly recommend you go to French Island and when you do, stay with Phil at the eco inn.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a little overnight adventure, and we found it here - right on Melbourne's doorstep - at the French Island Eco-Inn. Intrigued first by the self-sufficiency and protected natural status of the island, we found the hospitality at Eco Inn complemented the charming atmosphere on the island.

We like to take simple holidays that allow us to unwind from the grind of city life. French Island, with just 100 inhabitants, and absence of cars, really lets you feel like you are a million miles from the city. The island itself is bigger than Phillip Island, so there is plenty to explore if you have more time. But for a single night stay we found ourselves very much content to enjoy the views from the decking of Eco Inn, as well as bushwalk to the island's 'Pinnacles'. We were even lucky enough to spot three wild koalas just hanging out in the trees immediately surrounding the Inn.

Our host Phil was an excellent chef and host. He served us lovely homemade meals prepared from local produce. He informed us that he would like to grow his own food; and has already installed a dam to irrigate his permaculture garden in the near future - which was a good talking point. Phil was also happy to share his knowledge of the island and generally ensure that we were well looked after. He even picked us up fro the ferry, even though it is a very manageable stroll of little more than a few hundred metres to his property.

We camped on the property for a small fee and in return had access to all the common areas as well as bathroom facilities.

Thanks Phil for a very relaxing and inspiring stay.

Room Tip: Backpacker dorms looked very comfortable and clean. It is a little windy on the island, but there ar...

Had 2 nights at the Echo lodge, What a fantastic place to just 'get away' from Melbourne. Phil the manager was outstanding - with his no worries attitude, couldn't do enough for us, food amazing - great portions, candle lit table! Rooms were very clean considering there are some upgrades going on. Really would recommend this place for a weekend to get away from it all. Many thanks Phil, we will be back

Had a great anniversary at Eco Inn. Phil just added the extra touches to everything - from picking us and taking us to the Ferry and picking us up again when we thought we could walk further than we could. Nothing was too much trouble for him. The meals were 5 star and presented beautifully. We cannot leave out Sammy the wonder dog for his great company and for taking us to the right trees when we wanted to see the koalas. Definitely the place to go for relaxation and great service and company, Thanks again Phil

Just back from what can only be described as a truly wonderful get away weekend with the girls.

Living in Melbourne, we decided a weekend away on French Island would be perfect to get away from the bustling city life of Melbourne. Phil, the manager of the Eco Inn was a fantastic host. He made every effort to make us feel welcome to not only the Inn but also introduced us to the whole island and some locals. The Inn is just around the corner from the jetty, a beautiful beach and campground.

The food was fantastic and great value. I'm still dreaming about the Thai curry we had. The bar prices are amazing! The cooked break was also superb. The rooms were clean, comfy and perfect for our needs. We stayed in the dorm room as there was three of us.

I can't thank Phil enough for the lovely weekend we had. I have told so many people about this place already and I am urging them to go. They will not be disappointed. The girls and I are already planning our weekend away at the inn in December.

Room Tip: We stayed the dorm room. Clean, comfy and just what we needed!

We came for an overnight stay in August Sat/Sun to check out the island and mainly check out wedding facilities.

To our comfort Phil had it all at French Eco Inn!

Wedding plans are being developed and we have a very relaxing time.

Dinner cooked and served on a candle lit table

Phil collected us and dropped us at the ferry.

What a beautiful place with warm regard, Phil Makes it!

Recommend relaxing w/e away, friend family w/e away, birthday, weddings, karaoke you name it Phil can deliver.

Room Tip: Phil has a few different options for all from camping to couples retreat!

I stayed at French island Eco inn with a couple of friend in February 2013. We had a great time in this beautiful place surrended by nature. Everything was perfect and Phil made our stay even more special. He was extremely helpful and even organized a boat for us to go back.
