We have had so many lovely holidays with family and friends at Les Rochers. Barbara and Simon always make us feel so welcome. The food is fabulous, and they have been flexible in the past with children's dining. We cant wait for next year!

Just returned from a fantastic week at Les Rochers and agree with all that has been said. Simon and Barbara and Barbara's mum - all wonderful, work like mad but still so easy going. The food is out of this world - the best I have had anywhere - and was thinking of not writing this review so as to keep the place a secret but that would be unfair! DEFINITELY going back again and the skiing at Cerviinia is wonderful too.

My two brothers, a grandson and myself have had a wonderful ski holiday, staying with Simon and Barbara in Les Rochers, and enjoying the beautiful pistes and glorious sunshine in Cervinia. We agree with everything that JCCM from London and Gill shaw said about the hotel and all that goes with it.. Nothing is too much trouble to these two people. This was ably demonstrated when a party of nine (I think) Britons arrived on a Saturday in March but their skis and luggage were still in Gatwick because of a power failure in the baggage department. By Sunday lunchtime they were skiing, dressed in clothes which Simon, Barbara and some of their staff donated. We loved the hotel, we loved the food, we loved the ambience, loved the drive up and down each day and enjoyed the conviviality in the bar each evening. By the way, Simon is also a golf instuctor and a hang-gliding instructor. The one thing we missed was a pool or jaccuzzi to rest our weary bones (average age, excluding the youngster, seventy six) was a swimming pool, but this will be put right for next season. So no need to guess where we will stay next year.

Cervinia is a wonderful place to ski. An efficient lift system. Beautifully manicured pistes. Great ski school. But the town itself is, well, a bit under-inspiring. The hotels tend to be large and impersonal - a bit like the architecture.

But ten minutes by car or complimentary minibus is a gem of a hotel. I've just enjoyed my second holiday at Les Rochers and this last week was just as good as the first. Barbara (Italian) and Simon (very British) look after their guests as if they are family friends, without ever being obtrusive. I arrived at the hotel after the rest of my party and was going to book a taxi to take me up to get my ski boots fitted. Barbara insited on driving me up the hill herself. Simon advised on the best places to ski, whilst tending an extremely well-stocked bar. He should know about good pistes - he is a qualified (and extraordinarily able) instructor and mountaineer. And, in the kitchen, Barbara's mother managed to oversee some of the best cooking I have ever tasted. Apart from my own Mum's, of course.

Rooms are comfortable, clean and unfussy. The TV receives both the BBC and ITV as well as local channels. The bar and dining room are 'alpine' in feel, with wood panelling and comfortable furniture. There's an open fire, a pool table and a bookshelf full of paperbacks that previous guests have left to share.

Building works will provide a few more rooms, without ruining the atmosphere - and a swimming pool.

I can't wait to visit again.

Anyone who's ever traveled to a new vacation destination knows the anxiety of choosing a place to stay. Surely price and location are big factors, but I always struggle with questions about the service and cleanliness because pictures and reviews never seem to give me much confidence. For our ski trip to the Italian Alps we chose an area around Valtournenche and Cervinia northwest of Milan about 2 hours - the quintessential Italian Alps. We did the google searches and read a review here on tripadvisor. In the end it was just a gut feeling that led us to book this jewel of a hotel/inn. Where do I start? The inn is run by Barbara and Simon. One is Italian, the other British so there was no language barrier at all. It's a 12 room inn so you really feel cozy and the rooms are new - they did a complete makeover last year and it's beautifully done in wood and stone. They serve a breakfast every morning and dinner every night. The dining room is also warm and cozy - the same alpine feeling you get throughout. Grandma oversees the kitchen, which we're told prepares her traditional recipes. I'm not kidding, this is superb quality food every meal. Breakfast is continental buffet style with meat cheese, hard or soft boiled egg, cereal, croissants, etc. The dinners are served by a wait staff that really cares about you. It's this way throughout at Les Rochers. We felt at home, well cared for, it was neat and clean and the closest thing to perfect. As for getting to the slopes there's no worries. Simon runs his van up or down to the chair lifts at nearby Valtournenche or Cervinia - take your pick every morning, load up and go. The skis and boots are kept in a heated locker room decorated with pictures of Simon skiing powder "off piste" and hang gliding, just two of his incredible pastimes. After a full day of high alpine skiing, breathtaking scenery and excellent food we'd retire to the lounge area after dinner. Simon tends the bar. He serves up a schnapps, beer, wine and a good sense of humor. He's an interesting fellow with some amazing stories. There's a pool table in the lounge, a fireplace and a bunch of soft arm chairs. That's where we'd meet up with other guests from Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands. I can't describe the fun we had yucking it up with these folks. I think it was just the laid back ambiance coupled with a pot of tea and schnapps that put everyone in such a convivial mood. Of course you're reading one person's experience, but I'm quite certain that you'll enjoy this place for all of the reasons I've described above. I don't think you can go wrong here and I hope this helps to make your decision a little less stressful.
