“Cool place, good beer and food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

Went here during Oktoberfest celebrations and was nice to get out of the madness in Munich.
Such a lovely location and great beer at good prices. Delicious pork knuckle and pretzels.
Would recommend going here however have some transport sorted out. We ended up hitch hiking back down to the train station at 8pm as no taxis or buses running.

“A Must.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2014

This is one of those places that you're incredibly happy you made the journey for and additionally happy that not everyone is willing to make the same journey. Filled largely with locals, Andechs is an amazing spot to take in the beautiful German countryside and a stein (or two... or three) of delicious Bavarian beer. But it is not just the location that makes this place a must for those in the Munich area. Instead, the trek to the monastery itself makes the excursion worthwhile.

To get there, take a train from Munich to Herrsching. From the Herrsching station, walk east (away from the lake) up towards the hills. You'll find signs that point the way but you'll have to keep your eyes open. Also, ask the locals, they will surely help point the way. Before you know it, you'll find yourself walking through a small valley along a fast running creek. The scenery is gorgeous. After a short hike (a mile or so) you'll come upon a goat pen with stairs leading up to the left. Up these stairs is your long awaited, and most deserved, beer! Your return trip is much easier. Take a bus from the station just across the street from Andechs which will take you to a subway stop in about 15-20 minutes. If my directions are unclear, there are several blogs which will help point the way!

“Views and Beer!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2014

Half the fun of going here was the beautiful drive in the country. We drove from Fussen and the scenery was gorgeous. The monastery was so peaceful and beautiful. We just got beer (the dunkel was amazing) and sat out on the porch for the view. Such a good time. Be warned that if you want to do a tour, they don't start until June. (Opps!)

“Always a great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2014

Used to visit Andechs often, now unfortunately it is only once in every two years. But the character, food and especially the beer has not change, only the prices.

If you like roast pork knuckle you have to purchase one and if there two people have it cut in the middle. No half portions served, but there is plenty of other goodies available. A friend had Steckelfisch ( grilled mackerel) from a kiosk just outside the gardens.

Try the dark beer, a beer to remember

“What a great food and beer experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2014

I loved my visit to Andechs - the Holy Mountain in September 2010. I was introduced to Andechs Monastry and it's brewery by German friends during a trip to Hammersbach and Zugspitz.

What an experience for an Aussie. The monastery and it's grounds were full of history eagerly explained by my friends. A short tour at the brewery was fantastic. To see beer steins locked away in special holders for their owners next visit was something I've never seen or heard of before.

We ate at the outside restaurant with long tables full of happy clients. We were joined at our table by complete strangers - something which never happens at home. The companionship and banter was something special. Magnificent beer with schwine huxe, sauerkraut and pretzel - this was a meal to die for! Andechs - the Holy Mountain, was an experience I'll remember for the rest of my life.
