“Outdoor beer hall close to heaven”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

About 60 miles southwest of Munich on the Starnberger See this monastery beer garden is a great place to spend a weekend afternoon. The brewery beer is excellent, the food plentiful in proportions, the atmosphere relaxing! The scenery is from the beer garden looking out over the rolling countryside.

“Nice place to visit on a weekend”
Reviewed November 30, 2013

A few people in the church and a crowd in the beer halls, this is Bavaria. The place is well maintained. The food is good, especially the pork knuckle.. You could also take a small trek to the place from the railway station. This will take about 2 hours and it is great. Also, you could get a cab from the station for around 13 €. Better to visit it during the summer and they remove the outdoor seats during winter.

“Beatiful walk”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

The walk is absolutely beautiful through the forest (I recommend the easy path cause I simply think it is more beautiful). Best time of the year to visit is October, when the trees are changing colour. The monastery has a very nice church, but the restaurant is pretty bad (classic Bavarian overcooked cholesterol rich food)

“Nice location, iconic beer, sociopathic wait staff”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

The location is nice - the beer is good and strong and it is something of a local legend...but...I encountered nasty nasty service here on both occasions I was here.

I have also spoken to others who have met with unpleasant customer services. I am talking about pushing around my elderly parents when they were visiting me in Munich, barking at them in German which they did not understand (I did). Never returned there, never will.

Munich has a lot of better alternatives - Hirschgarten, Michaeligarten, Taxisgarten, ... you don't need to go to Andechs.

“Best day trip of the week”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

Andechs Monastery is a must. It's a bit of work to get there, but worh every effort. The church and views are beautiful, and the beer and food are fantastic.
