“Good choice for a weekend away”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2013

We booked a lastminute weekend away at Dalmahoy, and generally enjoyed our time at the hotel, with a few small annoyances....

Dalmahoy is an old castle-style building with a large adjoining annexe building that houses the leisure facilities and most of the hotel accommodation. The reception area is in the old building and it's a couple of minutes walk through to the accommodation area. The rooms are fairly standard for a Marriott, with a large bed, desk, seats, and a good sized TV. There was a radiator (it is Scotland!) but the room was fairly well insulated and we certainly weren't cold. See photos for a better idea of the layout etc.

The hotel is set in some very nice grounds, and there's a golf course and (separate) driving range on site too. There's a large swimming pool with a sauna and steam room. This was a very busy and popular part of the hotel, but it's big enough to cope comfortably with large numbers of guests. Despite how busy the hotel seemed to be we had a good sleep and weren't aware of any noise etc.

Dining in the hotel has a few issues. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table in one of the hotel restaurants, and then almost gave up waiting for our food to be served once we had ordered! In the morning the breakfast arrangement was chaotic, with so many people queuing for a table that a separate room was allocated for waiting in. I wouldn't say the mealtime experiences ruined our stay, but I do think it's unreasonable for a hotel that's relatively remote to be unable to cope with guests wanting dinner and breakfast!

Overall we enjoyed this short break in Dalmahoy (which is relatively close to home for us), but they really need to up their game with the restaurants if we are to return.

A fantastic hotel, beautiful surrounding with great and welcoming staff. We stayed for one night and arrived a little early, but despite the wedding going on around them the reception staff were able to check us into our room early. Great selection of bars and restaurants, and dinner Saturday night was great, if the dishes a little unorthodox in presentation!
Breakfast was immense, a huge buffet of freshly prepared Scottish breakfast, plus the pool and leisure centre were well staffed. Slightly disappointed the steam room was out of order, but not big issue!
Highly recommend, great value for money on a dinner bed and breakfast deal!

Stayed here with hubby in January & came back again with friends for a weekend. Loved it again & so did our friends. Bedrooms (deluxe) were faultless & the food was excellent.
We'll go back without a doubt.

Room Tip: Get an upgrade - Deluxe rooms are lovely

I has to work for a few days near Queensferry.

First the less nice things, the drive way to the hotel has very nasty speedbumps. Healthy people won't bother them, but I have neck problems thanks to a driver who did not see the trafficjam and parked his car with 50 miles per hour in my car...
In the dark, the signage to the entrance was difficult to find. The first night I had a noisy room with a door interconnect (Closed, pfff) to the adjecent room.
Internet is an option that cost imho too much.

But now the good item:
The hotel entrance looks like a castle, very nice.
I had a lot of luggage, so the hotel staff offered me directly to bring my suitcases to my room.
The check in, no problem.
The room is equiped with a good bed and has enough space.
But the first night, what a noise. The room next door was connected to my room via an in between door.
So the next morning I told the reception staff about the noise. At that moment they had no room available, but they would take care if I returned from the customer it would have been arranged.
So I've put all my clothes back in the suite case.
I came back late in the evening (~21:00) and I've got a new room.
The staff transported my suite case to the new room.
This room was real quit. Thank you !

I've had dinner twice in the restaurant of the hotel.
Advise: Go for the beetroots as a started and the chicken as main coarse. Superb !
Also the service of the staff was very correct and friendly.
They really did walk the extra mile for you and made you feel a valuable guest.

The breakfast, a good choice and again frienbdly staff.

If I come back again in this area, I will be sure to go for this hotel again.

And hotel management, 15 pound a day for internet access, that's should be included in the room price.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room, not facing the parking lots

We stayed at the Dalmahoy for 3 nights. The hotel is lovely, and the staff cant do enough for you. They are a bit tight with the complimentary tea and biscuits and our mini fridge didn't work but thats a minor grumble. If you don't go on a package with food included then you will find both restaurants rather expensive, however we were on a bed and breakfast package and the breakfast was excellent with loads of variety. There is a Carvery opposite the hotel gates so we ate there once, and whilst the place looks a little 'tired' the food was good. We played golf on the West Course which is the smaller of the two, and it was in decent condition considering the weathers been so bad. Its £25 to play the West Course and £35 to play the East Course, I don't think theres enough of a concession for residents but to be fair we haven't stayed and played at many UK resorts, we've mainly stayed and played in Europe or the USA and they give far better concessions for residents. We would definitely stay at the Dalmahoy again, hopefully when the weathers bettter.

Just returned from a weekend break to Edinburgh staying with my family and my in-laws. Hotel is the perfect getaway in the complete sense, comfortable rooms and every amenity you ever need from a hotel. Our room was lovely with comfortable beds and extra pillows are requested. The leisure club is always a bonus with our kids and with the changing area recently being upgraded there is a fresh/clean feel about the area. Breakfast was the usual high standard and must be one of my favourite rooms to eat any breakfast in any hotel, the Rufflets Hotel in St Andrews being the other. Sitting overlooking the championship golf course with the baronial styled room is amazing. Enjoyed a family trip to the Edinburgh International Science Festival for the kids, add a lovely meal at the Bridge Inn at Ratho on the Saturday evening just made the weekend stay. Overall a great time and will be back again soon.

Our resent stay at the
Dalmahoy, A Marriott Hotel & Country Club Edinburgh

The hotel sits within its own grounds and has two Golf Courses attached with extensive leisure facilities including Gym, Tennis and Pool etc two restaurants and a golfers bar with attached. Dining. The hotel itself is furnished and decorated to a very high standard; the staff is very polite and helpful.
Our break was a special discount break (March and April) under £50 UK pounds per person based on two staying in a double or twin room on a bed breakfast and evening meal basis, (amazing value) The room offered was well decorated and clean with all the amenities including 32inch flat screen TV, safe and fridge, meals and drinks can be ordered and served in the room at additional cost.
The breakfast is served in the main restaurant and is of the help your self basis served from hot tureens the food is hot and of high quality serving the Scottish, English and continental versions.
Edinburgh is only a short distance away including the M9 bypass to Queensferry bridge so this hotel is ideal for travellers going north and south for a luxury stopover and for extended breaks to the city with its many attractions.
