Though Maharshi Devendranath found unmatched peace sitting at Chhatimtala, we had to be satisfied with clicking pictures of it from a distance as that's what allowed for the tourists.

This site is revered by all in Santiniketan. It is one of the highlights of the day spent at Santiniketan. One can almost feel the presence of Tagore.

It is a great place of history and has been well maintained.

Santiniketan is far from Kolkata but a day trip is possible and highly recommended. Unique place and yet unspoilt.

Budha achieved Nirvana by sitting below the great Banyan tree known as Bodhibriksha and Chatimtala is also having such a history. Rabindra Nath Tagore would often sit below this great tree and write those immortal poems, plays, stories ,articles...create music. It has become a shrine for the visitors. When i looked at this great serene place then i started imagining as though Tagore is sitting there and giving his mischievous smile at us. By the way this particular tree blooms during autumn and the fragrance of the flower is maddening, no wonder Tagore chose this tree for his creative activity.
