Description: WE ARE A FAMILY RUN, CHILD AND DOG FRIENDLY COUNTRY PUB. We offer choice of 4 real ales, a smooth ale, 4 lagers (2 premium) and 3 ciders on tap with a good variety of bottled ciders, soft drinks and alcohol free lager. Our food dose not claim to win prizes, but its good quality, good portion size, and freshly cooked (and it won't break the bank) so some times a small wait is inevitable but hopefully worth it. The atmosphere is warm welcoming and cosy with a wood burner one end and an open fire the other which we light when its miserable and cold outside which is most of the year. The pub is open from 12 noon every day all day, and closes around 10pm in the week, then around 12pm weekends. Sunday and Monday we serve food 12pm till-3pm ONLY (no evening meals) Every other day its 12pm till 2pm then 6pm till 8.30pm looking forward to seeing you Soon

Probably the only positive thing about this pub is the location - which is not down to the current owners
Having been here on numerous occasions over the years, and finding the previous owners very welcoming and friendly we went here over bank holiday weekend only to be sorely disappointed.
The outside is full of wooden benches that have seen far better days, mismatched and damaged plastic chairs and then rubbish - looking very dilapidated and messy. Unfortunately this theme carries on inside. The first impression on entering is dark, dank and dirty, the room to the left is full of "stuff" despite obviously trying to be a restaurant with tables set up for eating - just looks more like a store room.
There was a woman behind the bar with a long dark ponytail who I assumed to be the owner/manager (though I may well be wrong about this) who was obviously very put out at having to see to customers as she made no effort to make people feel welcome - in fact made it seem as if she was doing you a favour by serving you!
We asked if we could have food outside - explained where we were sitting and was told that would be fine and paid up front for the drinks (in dirty glasses) and two rolls - the only reason we ended up staying was that we had paid first! After 50 mins the same woman with dark hair came out shouting like a fish wife what food she was bringing out, so I waved to say it was ours at which point she screamed across the whole garden "come & get them then" and proceeded to dump the plates on the nearest table (where other customers were sitting) turned around and walked away.
I wish I could say the food was worth it but to be honest we left most of it anyway as it was pretty poor.

I really am disappointed as when we used to come here years ago it was a lovely place in a fab setting but it is now dirty and not looked after and being run by people who desperately need customer service training. This type of location deserves staff that will look after it and make the most of the setting not use it as a dumping ground.

We will certainly not be going back - especially when the Horseshoe Inn is two minutes up the road and is also in a beautiful setting but has the added bonus of being clean and welcoming with friendly, helpful staff and very tasty food.

We were looking for somewhere to take friends for a meal and I remembered this place from years ago. We were given a very warm welcome as soon as we walked in, the menu had a good choice of meals at very reasonable prices. Three of us had steak and one had lasagne, and the steaks were cooked as we asked for them and the lasagne was lovely as well. The atmosphere was very pleasant too.
Would highly recommend calling in here for a bite in the afternoon as well, especially after a nice long walk along the tow path at Goytre Wharf which is a short distance from this pub.

The pub is a little scruffy inside and out; a spring clean and fix up is needed.

Beer price is not bad at £3 a pint of ale, but it didn't feel as welcoming at the bar as I had hoped.

If your looking for one drink after a cycle, then it is perfect, but any longer and you'll start to notice the clutter.

This used to be a lovely place to stop off and have a drink or to get a meal. We didnt eat on this occasion but what has happened???
The sign on the enterance is broken and just left, empty beer barrels and gas bottles just left around the enterance.
The pub seemed really cluttered with bits everywhere it looked really untidy. Such a shame, this has to be the worst ive seen it in years. Ive always recommended this pub but am left really disappointed.
Really hope improvements are on the cards as good local pubs are very few and far between.
