Most major trunk routes now have one or more flat-pack hotels from the major chains. The A4042 roundabout at Pontypool has a Premier Inn and a Best Western. We stayed at the Best Western, last week for three nights whilst exploring South Wales. It is snuck behind a KFC and MacDonalds. The clientele when we were staying were predominantly those on “business” rather than holiday. The hotel specification in my opinion is somewhat higher than the competition, but what makes the difference here is the attitude of the staff. All were friendly and very welcoming which is a pleasant surprise from such an establishment. This is led from the front desk by Liz who seems to know everything and apparently has a doctorate in time travel but don’t tell her I told you.
