Stayed for 12 nights over a 3 week period. Stayed in a variety of rooms all different but all very nice. Ones with 4 poster beds and free standing bath was particularly nice.
Very friendly staff who went out of their way to help when needed.
Food was very nice

We visited the Old Manor Hotel, Trowle Common to sample the Taster menu. We are local to the area and our daughter had recommended it to us. You sample 5 small courses consisting of soup, beetroot with goats cheese, smoked salmon, Duck confit and finally treacle tart and clotted cream for dessert. The food was lovely. The service was friendly and professional. Not a huge choice of wine but what we chose was ideal for the meal and reasonably priced. A very good evening and we will return. I wish the new owners luck with their new venture and would recommend this restaurant.

The beautiful Old Manor Hotel is a work in progress, as admitted by its entrepreneurial owners in the guest information booklet. There are a number of positive features to the place, first and foremost the breathtaking building itself and the adjoining small walled garden and wild field with beehives and soon, we’re told, pigs. There are a number of places to relax and enjoy the facilities, but unfortunately these were all nabbed by the wedding party that coincided with our stay, though we were warned in advance that this would be the case. There was a cosy fire with two armchairs at reception, a games room with air hockey, pool table, and fruit machines, and a creamery restaurant. Our room was spacious and had all the usual amenities and the bathroom was nicely decorated, though it seemed that all that was between back-lit me and the car park was a sheer net curtain. The Neal’s Yard bath products were a welcome and sumptuous touch.

On the negative side was an all-prevailing smell, possibly sewage, which permeated the entire hotel. This alone would keep me from returning. The television was at a neck-crick angle close to the bed and would benefit from being centrally placed further away. Breakfast was potentially very good: the bread for toasting seemed straight out of the oven and the iced bucket of juice and milk was lovely. The homemade muesli, however, had an odd taste about it – we wondered if the hotel’s strange smell had affected it - and one of the two pots of jam? honey? was unidentifiable. Labels would have helped. The full English breakfast option was average. I looked forward to the home-smoked bacon, but it was very undercooked. The bubble and squeak croquettes featured peas and carrots and missed the mark.

Transportation into Bradford-on-Avon is easy, with train, bus, and short car journey all possible.

Many of the aspirations outlined in the information booklet sound laudable and this would be a great place to return to once things have settled down.

We stayed for 2 nights and had the gourmet five course dinner - excellent. Wonderful staff, nicely equipped rooms, great location, quiet night sleep, nice breakfast - local produce. Would stay here again.

I would definitely recommend this lovely Hotel. It is beautifully quiet and relaxing, yet close enough to Bradford on Avon and Bath to make them easy visits. The staff were excellent - friendly but unobtrusive and our room (Room 20) was spacious and comfortable. Restaurant was relaxed and the food very enjoyable. Overall excellent value. Thank you.

Don't be put off by the entrance and pot holed drive. You can drop your cases off near the reception before parking round the back (not comfortable in heavy rain). The relatively new owners are trying hard and gradually getting this place together but there is a still a way to go with the details. The best thing about the Old Manor is the staff. We were upgraded to a suite thanks to Stacey who's telephone manor and sense of humour was engaging (thanks Stacey) and extended thanks to all the staff who made us feel welcome most. The tasting menu was ok without including a course which had the wow factor. My opinion is that the shoulder of lamb main course would be better off without the snails! The full English breakfast was fine but having to wait in the corner for the toaster to do its work rather took the edge off things. Our overnight stay was a gift from our grandchildren so I don't feel inclined to criticise too much but I wasn't impressed by the hole in the bed linen. With time I'm sure this place will be even better. Good luck with the project and hold on to the brilliant staff.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Moonraker hotel, a grade 2 listed 21 bedrooms Manor house situated on the outskirts of Bradford on Avon/ Trowbridge and a 15 minute drive from the Bath Spa. Mentioned in the Domesday book as being part of the Abbess of Glastonbury's estate, the Manor house was originally build in Queen Ann Style before being upgraded in the 17th century to Bath stone. Purchased by Tudor & Lucy Hopkins in July 2013 the hotel has undergone a full refurbishment including transforming the restaurant into a relaxed informal dining space. Head Chef Matthew Briddon (River cafe, Paul Heathcotes) joined the team in September 2013 and has created menus around the hotels kitchen garden and onsite smokery. Nine bee hives provide the hotel honey and rare breed pigs live on the grounds. Kathy Lette (writer and author) stayed at The Old Manor and wrote an article for the Express where she said: 'The bedrooms, with their four poster beds and wide wooden roof beams, are so Jane Austen-esque I kept expecting Mr Darcy to get down on bended knee' The Moonraker oozes old world charm and is a relaxed cotsworld escape with some of the UK's top attractions on its doorstep. ... more   less
