I like to eat at a pub if the food's a little bit different, authentic (no chain gastropub food thank you!) and the whole atmosphere makes you feel warm and comfortable. And that's exactly what the Poplars provides!
We went there on Sunday for lunch and I must admit I wanted something a bit different (although the lamb shank and all the trimmings was certainly greatly enjoyed by one of my fellow diners!). So I had a stilton and celery paté, which was possibly one of the most delicious starters I have eaten in a pub (but you've got to like stilton!), followed by peri-peri chicken, spiced just right, on a bed of stir-fried vegetables, which were absolutely delicious. Everything was accompanied by a very reasonably-priced bottle of South African Shiraz... what more could you ask for on a Sunday?
Highly recommended for a traditional Wiltshire pub food and drink experience, with that added extra that makes it stand out from the crowd.
