Wheal Rodney Holiday Park
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 25, 2011

We have been staying at Wheal Rodney for the last ten years and it's just got better every year - great facilities, friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, good size pitches and a toasty warm swimming pool! We have camped and stayed in the bungalows, with and without our dogs. It is both child and dog friendly but also peaceful if you fancy a break as a couple. The area is beautiful. We think it's great value and love coming back each year to see the latest improvements. Keep up the good work - looking forward to returning soon!

Stayed in holiday bungalow for a week we found the bungalow clean and tidy but in our opinion was in need of updating. The proprietors and staff were very friendly and helpful. An excellent addition was the indoor swimming pool.

We were lucky enough to get a very special offer for a 2 bedroom bungalow, that was dog friendly, on 30 Sept for 3nts, Fri-Mon, and I can honestly say the whole park was brilliant and very friendly.

The 2 bed bungalow we had (I think it was no.9) was much better than we thought a holiday park would be like. It was spotless on arrival and all the cooking/cleaning equipment you might need was all ready for you. A very nice touch was a pint of milk in the fridge and toilet rolls supplied, which was very handy as we arrived at at 9pm without having a chance to stop to buy essentials.

The rooms had twin beds in one room and a double bed in the other and extra matresses if you needed them.

It is a 5 min walk down the country lane(bring a few touches for night time walking!) to the sea side with at least 7 pubs/restuarants to visit and little shops there. St. Michaels Mount is fantastic in the day time and then looks even better at night lit up by the moon whilst drinking a local beer in one of the pub gardens.

The park is also suitable for caravans and tents and all the different staff we talked to each day were so friendly and helpful it made the stay even better, especially when my friend left her phone in the pub with the view of St.Michael's Mount and the staff helped us work out what the pub was called and rang them to say we would be back for dinner and to keep the phone safe for us (which they did!).

Can't wait to go back next Summer as there is so much to do in the area but I would like to stay at Wheal Rodney longer than the weekend!

Cant find any faults with holiday park and look forward to going back!

We stayed at wheal Rodney for only 2 nights as visiting relatives, the staff were so friendly and welcoming and made us feel completely at home! We stayed in one of the bungalows which was great, fully equipted with everything you would need for self catering, all we had to supply was the food, very comfortable and such a peacefully location!
It is only a short walk to marazion which is absolutely beautifull with plenty to do and see!
The heated swimming pool was a big hit with my 5 year old son and so was the shop which was full of all the essentials u need!!
All in all a great stay and will deffinately be going back next year and already recommended to lots of friends!

We stayed for a week in August 2011 in our touring caravan , and were pleasantly surprised at this site .

note .

The lane to the site is rather narrow with one difficult single lane bridge to negotiate , but luckily nothing came the other way . I would recommend reading the instructions on your booking letter carefully or read the web site about accessing the site if you are towing a caravan . Also check out the lane on google maps so you know where to go after leaving the main road , and do not try to get to the site with a caravan from the Marazion side .

Other people have covered the details of the site at great length , so all I will add is that the site is rather small , and access to some of the pitches is a little tight although the pitches themselves were fairly generous , but the site is relaxed and friendly with a lovely warm swimming pool , which is free . There is a nice utility block , with white box things in one room ( apparently according to the wife these are called washing machines and tumble dryers , but I have no idea what they are used for ) , toilets and showers etc . If I had to complain about something it would be about the showers , which were small and in need of an upgrade , but they were clean and the water nice and hot .
The site shop was full of the things you normally need on a camp site , and a nice touch were the games and book library , which were available for anybody to borrow free of charge . There was also a coffee machine in the utility block .

We enjoyed the resident Border Collie and Cat wandering around , and laughed at the collies antics with the hose pipe when the hanging baskets were being watered . The staff were friendly and welcoming . Marazion is a relatively short walk away , either down the lane or across the fields . The site is very pet friendly which is a refreshing change for Cornwall , where we find most of the good beaches have dog bans in place in summer .

If you camp close to the site office , you can connect to their wireless router ( for a fee) to access the internet , but we used out broadband dongle instead which was a able to pick up a reasonable broadband service .

The only thing which would make me think twice about returning to Wheal Rodney would be the trees around the pitch we were on , which blocked out most of the light and made the it all feel a bit gloomy in the evenings . The trees also made a mess of our awning by dropping debris . The trees also made a good perch for the birds to drop their droppings which had to give a thorough hose off when we got home .

Other than that very minor gripe , we had a great time and will probably return again at some point .

We booked this break from a newspaper offer, payed a pitance and still got a welcome pack of the basics. Superb! The site itself and the accomadation where spotless and comfortable. Then after all this you meet the staff, what lovely genuine people. They are the type of people you would choose as friends. I would have no trouble recommending Wheal Rodney to anyone prepared to listen, I hope I get the chance to revisit this wonderfull place again, in the not to distant future.

Room Tip: Dont worry about getting a good room, it's already in the bag.

We are delighted to hear that you had a good weekend away here at Wheal Rodney. Thank you for the comments about the facilities, and our showers - The Rinnai water heating system which has been fitted truly is a marvel as it doesn't run out of hot water and gives fantastic water pressure, so we are very pleased with it!
