“Real costal Baja feel”
Reviewed March 27, 2011

This review is long overdue, but better late than never I guess. My wife and had the pleasure of staying at Baja Bungalows last May after a week long visit in Cabo San Lucas. CSL was great and we enjoyed our stay there, but Cabo Pulmo is much more our style. It's quiet, laid back, has the real feel of Mexico and the beautiful Baja environment is largely intact.

We stayed in the upper unit of the "New House", which has nice views of the sea (better than they appear on the website) and of the surrounding desert and has a great deck - part shaded, part sunny - from which to enjoy the views and the peaceful serenity of the area. When we initialy researched lodging in CP, the only concern I had about Baja Bungalows was the distance to the beach. But that turned out to not really be an issue and while it would be nice to be right on the beach and it was kind of cool to experience the desert while still in view of the sea.

The unit was spacious, clean, attractive and comfortable. We didn't do a lot of cooking since we were only there for a couple of days, but the kitchen seemed to be pretty well equiped and included everything you should need. The refrigerator worked great as did everything else we used. We met some interesting guests at BB and enjoyed their company and getting to know them.

Mark was great and provided good tips on the area (beaches to visit, snorkel guides, restaraunts). We did an excellent snorkel trip that gave us the opportunity to snorkel above a school of manta rays, swim with the sea lions and visit numerous different sites.

The beach directly in front of the village is a bit rocky, but it's a short walk to a sandy beach. It's amazing to walk just south of town and not spot another soul on the beach as far as you can see. A minor negative about the town was that one of the locals fired up his diesel generator after sundown and ran it for a few hours. Not a major issue and not the fault of BB. Mark mentioned that some of the residents were working to resolve that and it's probably resolved by now. We tried a couple of the local restaurants and both were great. El Caballero made excellent chilaquiles for breakfast and La Palapa had great tacos for lunch and an outstanding steak and shrimp dinner (better than anything I had in CSL and 1/3 of the price). Everyone we met in Cabo Pulmo was warm, friendly and helpful.

We loved Cabo Pulmo and Baja Bungalows. As others have stated, it's probably not for everyone. If you're looking for Spring break type party action, lots of night life, fine dining options and resort amenities, it's probably not for you. If you looking for a casual, laid back adventure getaway with deserted beaches, great snorkeling/diving opportunities, the feeling that you're really in Mexico and the chance to experience some of Baja's natural beauty, Cabo Pulmo is probably a place you would appreciate and enjoy. And Baja Bungalows is a great place to stay while you're there.

We're looking forward to visiting Cabo Pulmo and Baja Bungalows again in the future.

My husband and I just returned from a one-week stay at Baja Bungalows in Cabo Pulmo and cannot say enough about how wonderful it was! The house where we stayed was clean, well-appointed for meal making, reading, whale watching and relaxing. Kent, our host, could not have been more helpful.
This is a very quiet and friendly village with a few marvelous restaurants and plentiful pristine beaches within easy walking or short drive distances. Escape from the phone, television and internet (except for limited wi-fi)! The community is very welcoming and close. We quickly found the best sources for chorizo, homemade tortillas, great snorkel and whale watching tours and directions to secluded beaches.
Electricity is provided by solar panels, so don't take your hair dryer! Casual, comfortable and perfect for marine appreciation are the best descriptions for this place. The Mexican government has done a fabulous job with this Marine Preserve.
We would highly recommend a stay at Baja Bungalows with Kent.

This is the place to go in Baja where you really experience it from pre CABO craziness. It is a friendly Mexican village, with the amazing blue green sea of Cortez in view, snorkling and sea kayaking, in a relaxing safe environment, with no worries. We stayed in Kents new house which can be two units -one upstairs with amazing viewsof the desert and ocean, one downstairs which would be perfect in the
hottest months(July-sept) because it is shaded, but we rented both and had space for our two teenages. Be aware that the road is dirt (read rock) for the last 5 miles but driveable in a rental car check out Dominick for one of those very easy!

Off the beaten track. Owner, Kent, is a great host and has toys for use of guests like boogi boards, snorkel gear, off-road jeep, kayaks, beach chairs. This is a place for the adventurous traveler who also wants a comfortable bed and bath at the end of the day. Kitchens are well-equipped, but good restaurants are close by. We particularly enjoyed sharing the communal kitchen with new friends. Wireless internet is via satellite so uploads are slow and Skype is spotty.

We just completed a 6 day stay at the Baja Bungalows in Cabo Pulmo. This is a very unique experience, but not for everyone. The accomadations are clean, comfortable, but this is not a resort experience. I loved it. Electricity comes from solar power so fans and lights are available. There are propane refrigerators and gas stoves. We drank water from the faucet as it comes from a clean well. This was a first scuba dive trip for my 13 and 15 yr old kids and they loved the village and the diving. We left our doors unlocked in our bungalow as the village is very safe. Diving was great and the we found the service at the Cabo Pulmo Beach resort dive shop to be excellent. The bungalows are in a small compound with beautiful grounds. We stayed in a 2 story bungalow with the adults upstairs with a view of the ocean and a great breeze and the 2 kids downstairs. Restaurants in town were excellent but plan on leisurely dinners as everything is made fresh. If your kids need video games and you want nightlife and bars this is not the place for you, but for an experience of a friendly Mexican village, pretty beachs close by, snorkling and sea kayaking, in a relaxing safe environment, I think you will love it. PS the road is dirt for the last 5 miles or so and a little rough but easily driveable in a rental car, but get full insurance on your rental. I found a huge pothole at night lets just say my insurance saved me thousands of dollars. We plan to return next year. Contact the owner and he is very helpful in answering any questions.

Disconnect from the hype--reconnect with reality. My husband and I had never been to Cabo Pulmo before, or Baja for that matter. But we had such a great time, and for globetrekkers like us to say we'll be coming back means a lot. We haven't seen stars like this (on moonless nights) since we lived in rural Maine. The diving was terrific; the desert hikes gorgeous; and the hospitality at Baja Bungalows perfect. We made our own schedule, leaving the day to day of our jobs behind. We enjoyed cooking our own feasts in the well-equipped (and clean) kitchen in our bungalow, and we enjoyed the exceptionally good fish tacos at La Palapa and breakfast at Los Caballeros.

We hope to be back next fall, when we hear the diving isn't just good (as it was in January), but great!

Had a pleasant stay at his accommodation. The object of this vacation was scuba diving but, as an added bonus, the stay was exceptionally enjoyable. Kent the owner is one laid back host but is very conscientious of his guests needs. The unit was lacking nothing and any problems would be quickly fixed, I'm sure. Kent is very knowlegeable of the area and will point you in the right direction for anything. Baja Bungalows is way, way off the beaten path and primarily for visiting the national marine park and its related activities.
No electricity but solar power and was not an issue if one is conservative and aware of power consumption. Propane for hot water and stove/oven. Would definitely travel back to this location and stay again at the beautiful Baja Bungalows. Thanks Kent for a great 4 days!
