“Good last minute place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2014

We hadn't made reservations ahead of time so were pleased to find the little casita in which to stay. It was cute but a bit high priced for our budget. We stayed anyway and had a great time. Eco bungalow #3B was private and cute. Just fit 2 people. Very nice gardens and sitting area. Would have been nice to have a view of the ocean though....

Room Tip: Ask to see the rooms first. Some are spare and some much nicer

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2014

Stayed at Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort in March 2014 for 4 nights, having had to move from another accommodation in Cabo Pulmo we'd been very happy at for 9 nights. We stayed in Deluxe Bungalow #10. The complex is a little odd for such a freeform town: 4 or so straight rows of casitas and bungalows marching back from the beach. All are hidden behind half walls and ficus hedges, which are great for privacy but a little claustrophobic if you yearn for evidence of the water. Go for a casita or ecobungalow with a second story deck or patio so you can enjoy the views and the air. The little gardens are cute, and you feel as if you're in a very tiny, crowded neighborhood. Our bungalow was neat and clean and well-equipped when we arrived. However, over the course of our stay, it became evident that this particular casita badly needs a new roof and could use some anti-cockroach action. We ended up putting all of our food in the fridge to deter unwelcome critters. On the last day there, there was an exceptionally strong wind. When we returned from the beach, every surface in the casita was coated with up to 1/8" of dust, even though we had shut windows. It became clear that the debris on the floor and our clothes and linens was not only dust, but material from the roof, through which we could see light in a number of places. I feel sorry for the maid, who must have had to thoroughly clean every surface and corner of that place after we left. As it was after 5p when we discovered our dust problem, there was no one in the office to lend us a broom, and there were no cleaning materials in the casita. It was not a pleasant last night and morning living in the dust. When asked about our stay, I reported this to the office on checking out, and also mentioned the cockroaches. There was little comment, except to say that yes, this particular bungalow could use a new roof. We loved Cabo Pulmo and need only the most spare accommodations, but this place was the most expensive with the least service. I was also galled by their $5/day charge for internet. A marketing tip for you folks: Charge $3 more for the room and give the internet away free.

Room Tip: Don't stay in Deluxe Bungalow #10 until it gets a new roof and they've tackled the cockroach...

My family of three flew into San Jose del Cabo Airport rented a car went to the local Walmart and stocked up on supplies. I did my research before we even left which helps for a better vacation! It is about a hr. drive to Cabo Pulmo. The last 6 mi. of the drive is a dirt road.....so if you can afford it rent a SUV. We rented at the resort so my husband could learn how to scuba dive. He started his online class work and finished it prior to arrival which made the class go smoother. He was there at least 5-6 hrs a day in the pool learning so my four year old and I played at the Casita, took walks collected sea shells by the ocean, and found things to do to entertain ourselves (feed wild horses, Dogs) which my Son loved. ....there is plenty to do if you want to, we just wanted to chill!!! January is cold for scuba diving but the well trained and extremely professional staff will take care of you, and there is a amazing abundance of sea life to see. The office is open from about 8-6pm. Rick and Getse the management at the hotel will do anything they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible and then some. REMEMBER this is not the Ritz where there will be a front desk 24 hrs a day. You need to be semi self sufficient here. The Bungalows are privately owned and each is different.....for families I recommend #9. We wanted for absolutely nothing when we were there. I bought my Son a blow up pool, brought plenty of toys from home and bought water at Walmart to fill the pool as to not waste water in Pulmo it is a rare commodity and should be used sparingly. There is a small store about a half hr away in La Raberia. The local restaurants also have basic supplies if you need them. NO ATM so bring money with you. This is a remote quiet friendly peaceful place to vacation.....if you are looking for jello shots stay in Cabo San Lucas! You need to be the camping, outdoor type of person to enjoy this Resort to its fullest. There is no pool or waiter to bring you drinks. You go up to the top of the Dive Shop and get served the best food and drinks you could ask for.... there are several restaurant choices in walking distance as well....ALL were excellent! When I read some of the other review that people left that are negative I simply can not relate.....all the things they are complaining about are either from lack of research~ there own fault or a cant be controlled by nature situation.... The local residents and business owners were amazingly friendly and this is one little place in Mexican Paradise that has not been spoiled so you can enjoy what real Mexico truly is...... Not to mention so safe and no crime..... we also drove about a hr. to Los Barillas another adorable small town to visit.....After our experience in Cabo Pulmo we have decided to buy there.....we are one of those rare cases of right place at the right time. So now I can enjoy the resort any time of the year I would like. Blessings and safe Travels.

If you are looking for a remote place to relax on a deserted beach, watch whales, dive or snorkel, you will love it here. If you want to be hassled by vendors, spend tons of money or stay out partying all night, you will not love it. It is a get away spot. Nice place for long walks, swmming, and dirt bike/4 wheeling. Clean, safe, low key. Very remote.

Room Tip: Beach front is nice but it's nice to have a rooftop or deck up op to see the whales.

Visited Cabo Pulmo in Mid January, mainly to do some snorkeling. It's not much of a resort as a great place to rent a bungalow. the bungalows are charming, have the essentials, and are good for chilling out. The water was cold in January! The snorkel/dive shop attached were helpful, and they rented wet suits. Really chill.
Nearby is a restaurant called "Caballero" something (sorry). it is excellent! Also, Caballero has a mini grocery store that is to the point, and also sells meats and cold items better than the so-called grocery stores nearby. We stopped in Ribera prior to hitting Cabo Pulmo for groceries, but they had limited stuff.
The downside is the dirt road leading up cabo Pulmo, and that it's quite a drive to get there from the airport. we had to do the drive a night, and it was a bit harrowing on the one lane each direction/no shoulder roads. Maybe should have rented a 4x4...
Oh, bring bug spray!

My only complaint is that there is no one to contact in he evening if there is a problem. We checked in during the late afternoon and went for a walk on the beach. When we got back we realized there were no matches to light the stove/oven to cook the food we'd brought. If Ihadn't been familiar with the stove, I might not have even known it needed matches since there was no explanation in the room and no place to ask for help. I spent an hour asking around for matches. I eventually got some, so it worked out ok, but if it had been a more serious problem, I don't think it could have been fixed until morning. I would recommend doing a walk through the place as soon as you check in and going to the office immediately something is wrong or missing.

Other than that, the place was nice - quiet, comfortable, a minute from the beach with a well stocked kitchen (except for matches and somewhat grimey cookware). There is electricity in the room, although (thankfully) no cell or internet service. We especially liked the hammock and patio on the top floor of our ecobungalow and the dark sky. The oodles of stars were a real treat and make yu realize how much you are missing in the US with its overdevelopment and light pollution.

If you go on one of the beach club's snorkelling or diving trips, they delay your checkout which is nice for keeping your belongings and food out of the hot car or for taking a shower and changing.

We were there for one night in early January. I wondered what the weather would be like. It was pleasant for walking the beach in shorts, but too cold to swim much. The club provides full lengwetsuits for their snorkel trip. Even with wetsuits, I got cold after about 20 minutes in the water and I don't get cold easily. (It was a great trip, however, well worth being a little cold and there is ample time to warm up being snorkelling seesions.) Even the teenagers wore sweatshirts and sweatpants to sit out at night.

I want to do the trip again and would chose the Beach Club and its snorkelling trip again.

You can't rate Cabo Pulmo Resort by comparing it to any other resorts between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Cabo Pulmo is a place of magical simple beauty where you get away from it all. There will be no Cell signal there and if you want to you can buy a $5 daily web connection at the dial up speed we used to have 10 years ago.
But no, you shouldn't go to Cabo Pulmo and stay at this resort if you need to be connected and you want red carpets and marble floors. The staff is very nice by email and when you check in, we did not need their service anymore for the 4 days we spent there. Our unit 18 A&B was perfect for us it had a kitchen that was well equipped , there was spices and other very useful , a short walk to the beach and common areas outside that were very nice! There was a hammock upstairs under a palapa where you can take one of the best naps ever.
No AC or a heater, but I doubt you'll ever need them. Also, the shower is in an outside area, but is very private and nice.
There is very limited everything at the village, so if you want to cook a good meal bring some food over from town, there is a little town about 30 minutes away. I am rating this place a 5 because of the simpleness of everything and how beautiful and peaceful the little village of Cabo Pulmo is.
This may very well not be the place for the vest majority of people but it is for some of us.
Will come back for sure.
