this was a really blissful location and Bill and his staff could not be more helpful--the surrounding land has not been developed---yet---go while you can. Safe location and self-catering worked well having bought all supplies in La Paz

Witold, Suzy and Lucy, the daughter, were delightful to have as guests. They were very appreciative of the all natural surroundings, white sand beach with no people traffic and tranquility. Very upbeat and communitative.

They left the place spotless which is hard to do with beach winds and indoor/outdoor living environment.

My wife, myself and a friend rented Papagallo for a couple of nights this past week. The staff (Jack and Denny) are great people, super friendly and accommodating. Very spacious palapa home with plenty of room for even large families. Great hot water showers and private bathrooms. Full electricity from solar and generator. Very comfortable sleeping arrangements with no need for A/C despite weather in the 90's. It is beach front but its about 150yards to the water. Though open air we had no issues with insects during our stay. Very close to the village of Cabo Pulmo so easy access to their diving and dining facilities. You must have a dinner at Nancy's!
Thanks Bill We look forward to staying with you again soon!

“Beautiful setting, simple physical comforts, and very close to nature”

Nine of us stayed at the Eco Palapa in June 2015. The conditions at this property would best suit people who enjoy camping or backpacking but who now want something more luxurious. The kitchen, showers, and furniture all worked well. You are right on the beach, with cactus wrens and hooded orioles looking into your kitchen. There was enough room for all nine of us to be comfortable. Some of our party slept outside on the porch while others shared the interior rooms. The palm frond roof and ceiling of the palapa is simply glorious to look at. The weather was hot, the snorkeling and diving were superb, and the food at Nancy's restaurant in town was excellent. We brought coolers full of ice to supplement the refrigerator and this was very useful. I highly recommend this property to divers, nature lovers, and families.

“Simple stay, great diving”

The folks are super friendly and accomodating! We had dinner together a bunch and I would definitely stay here again. I even had a little adventure to the amazing waterfall in Santiago with Ella.

I stayed here while on a 5 day diving trip in the marine preserve. The diving was amazing!

The rooms are big and comfortable, and like all places in Cabo Pulmo, really open. Walls are thin (and should be, or else they would be really hot!). If you don't like insects and cute geckos in your room, might not want to stay here (or in Cabo Pulmo at all). Most places in Cabo Pulmo are as rustic (the point is to be nearer nature :)).

It's a very small town, so I would recommend bringing food (the stores aren't well stocked) and more than enough money to last your stay (the closest ATM is 1.5 hours away and only the dive center takes cards).

The Eco Palapa is about a 10 min drive down a rough dirt road to Cabo Pulmo village. It's quiet and basically has it's own beach, which I took daily strolls down. There's a free kayak, paddleboard, and snorkeling equipment you can take out whenever.

The one negative is that they advertise wifi, but it was out probably 80% of the time I tried to use it. It's a hard area to try to get reliable internet – the only place to get it in town is the dive center. I don't think this was a big deal, as it's kinda why I came here :) Get a book!

Thanks for joining us here and we are happy you had a good time.

We did recognize the Palmetto bug population had exploded to epidemic numbers at the time of your stay. I'm thankful to our managers who got all over this problem immediately using bug boxes and spraying inside & out around the floors and exterior walls with a safe but very effective "Home Defense" product found at HD that ended the problem. It is rare but populations in Baja and nature in general can sometimes explode in numbers or die off. We have seen this here with moths, toads, house flies and now the Palmetto bug. Guests come here to live closer to Mother Nature in her natural state and all natural surroundings. After all it would be pretty sterile and boring planet if mother nature never showed up.

Here you enjoyed a white sand beachfront, indoor/outdoor living, 360 views, all natural surroundings yet suggested a traditional 5th row rental unit in the village with solid walls, closed windows, fans etc. as a better choice for you, which I understand.

Being Off the Grid and on solar power we use propane refrigerators. They are not as strong as electric technology and users need to realize this perimeter to stay satisfied, especially in the warm months. Having a family work out of one with the door open a lot of the time will bring down efficiency. Upon arrival filling the refrigerator especially with lots of liquids and dense food will bring the temp up as will putting liquids in the freezer. Its the freezer that also cools the entire unit. They do take monitoring and some maintenance to stay at their best performance which we regularly attend to.

Pappagallo, Sunset and Eagles' Nest are available for rent along with a couple of Cabanas, sharing a bathhouse & kitchen, that are usually for overflow from a primary rental. We are attentive to guests and share some good times as well as guests meeting and enjoying new friends at this small resort on a great big beach but don't understand the "communal living" comment.

“Handmade, funky, magical place to revel in nature in Baja's East Cape”

My husband and I and our two college-age kids recently spent five nights at Eco-Palapa. While it was funkier and more homemade than we’d imagined, it was also everything we’d hoped for and more. We will not forget those days.

Bill, the proprietor, had double-booked Pappagallo for the first part of our stay, so since it wasn’t available, he separated us into three units and reduced the price. My husband and I had the Eagles’ Nest, our daughter had Sunset View, and our son had one of the campers. Our kids enjoyed the privacy and we were so glad we had the chance to experience the 360 degree views in Eagles’ Nest. The mountains rise sharply all along that part of the coast, so what we saw was the two miles of beach, hills coming down on both ends to frame the sand, and an expanse of Sonoran desert, complete with blooming ocotillo, between the sea and the mountains. Bill said that uncharacteristically, it had rained once a week for several months; as a result, the plants were green and the desert was unusually lovely for this time of year.

Being one floor up, Eagles’ Nest catches every breeze – you can actually feel the breezes increase as you climb the steps up to the unit. The mattress in the master bedroom is very comfortable, though the extra beds in the living room area are firmer than I’d want. Kids probably wouldn’t care. The stars are superb there and from bed, you can see them not only through all the windows but also through the gap between wall and roof. The unit manages to be sheltering and private but also so connected to the outdoors. The first morning, I couldn’t sleep after 4:30 a.m. because it was just so exciting to lie in bed listening to the birds and animals calling in the cool dark air and watch the sky gradually lighten and color, as the view returned of the mountains and the Sea of Cortez.

Pappagallo offered a much more expansive kitchen and dining area and it has a great private patio overlooking the beach. Be aware that there is no sound privacy for the bedrooms since the interior walls stop far short of the soaring, beautiful traditional palm-frond ceiling. But for a family, it’s big enough to spread out and no one’s snoring woke anyone else. Both Eagles’ Nest and Pappagallo have beautifully designed shower spaces and other artistic touches scattered about.

Staying at Eco-Palapa meant that we had about an extra fifteen minutes of driving each day to get to the snorkeling spots, which are on the other side of town. We didn’t mind, because what we got in return was the utter peace of that location, the darkness of that night sky away from other structures, and the long, clean, lovely beach for walking and swimming at the end of the day. The rhythm that worked best for us was to leave around 9:00 in the morning, which allowed us to pick up rental equipment in the village of Cabo Pulmo and still be at the snorkeling beaches (Los Arbolitos and Los Frailes) by about 9:40. After a good lunch in the village, Eco-Palapa was a great place to spread out and read or nap until the late afternoon sunlight on the water was too beautiful to resist.

Wifi was spotty and often very slow. We eventually learned that if we took a chair out to the parking lot at night, we could count on a strong signal. The backdrop wasn’t too shabby, either.

All in all, the vibe was perfect for a Baja trip oriented to nature and beauty. Happiest customers are probably those who might have camped in their twenties and thirties and appreciate the palapas as offering much greater creature comforts and convenience while still offering an immersion in the sights, sounds, fragrances, and breezes of the natural world.
