No its not modern, in fact far from it, but very clen tidy and neat, When all said and done its inan historic village, modern would look ridiculous.
No you dont get your own bathroom, there is one down the hall - old tongue and groove painted timber walls everywhere, metal ceilings - twelve foot up! creakign floor under the carpet, just imagine all who have trod there before.
No you dont get a TV in your room, but you can sit out on the traditional Queenslander first floor wide verandah and watch one in the cool of an evening after a hot day.
Your bed is comfortable, the water is hot in the shower, imagine yourself in the 1900's and its a very classy place! Now all this plus an included continental breakfast in the dining room for two of us for $70 - its really value.

Room Tip: None are bad depends if you want ot be at the front or back the place is extremely quiet at night.

The Royal Hotel is a quintessential historic Queensland pub established in 1880. It would appear that there have been no major structural alterations inside or out for some years, which in my view, only enhances the Royal’s overall charming character. My wife and I stayed there for one night on Thursday 13.9.2012. Our room (#3), located on the 1st floor was typically small (see attached images), clean and had a hand basin. The bed was comfortable, separate toilets and showers were located on the same floor. Our room was only accessible via the large covered verandah facing the main street. Being a pub with thin wooden walls, and situated on a busy village main street, fellow visitors should be aware of steady noises from the main bar below and traffic until about midnight. Another point is the transparency of the curtain on the door. To ensure privacy, occupants of room 3 should consider fastening a large towel or blanket over the existing curtain.
As it seemed there are not many eateries in Herberton, we decided to have a pub dinner. The reasonably sized dining room is best described as basic as it gets (the room appears to function also as a meeting room for the local Lions Club). My wife had a lamb roast dish (AUD $15.00) and I opted for a seafood basket (AUD $18.00). Both meals were adequate and filling.
We paid AUD $70.00 for the room which included breakfast (pre-packaged cereal, milk, coffee/tea, bread and spreads). Paul the owner was very laid back and friendly. In case we come back one day to revisit the Herberton Historic Village display (see separate review), earplugs are definitely a must. Advice for families with young children: the Royal Hotel may not be ideal for a number of reasons. However, motorcycle travellers: the Royal appears to be very biker friendly (in the positive sense!).

Room Tip: If possile, ask to see available rooms first. Consider age and state of the building, most rooms wil...
