I spent the day here with my family in august. The beach was pretty clean but the water was very dirty and polluted because there are boats right next to the shore.

The Village of Ferragudo and the beach are within walking distance of Portimao. The village is a fishing village with a harbour surrounded by housing. The beach is wonderful sand and would certainly warrant a day spent there in the sun. There are various bars and coffee shops in the village that all offer reasonably priced food and drink. A real unspoilt gem of a place and well worth a visit.

Having holidayed in the Algarve for the last 15 years, this year we decided to use the Railway in Lagos to go out. It was October and the weather warm and sunny. Around 30 minutes by train from Lagos is the little unspoilt resort of Ferragudo. Although the village is around 20 mins away from where the train stops following the river it's so worth the walk. Ferragudo stands on the River Estuary overlooking Portimao it is one of the prettiest areas on the Algarve. There is a fort built on the beach which is very impressive and splits the village beach from the larger Praia Grande. The beach is absolutely beautiful, with soft sands, crystal clear sea waters with peace and quiet away from the larger resorts in the area. Take a picnic and sun umbrella and spend the day just watching the world go by with a dip or swim in the sea to keep you cool! Ferragudo centre has some of the best fish restaurants on the Algarve and very reasonably priced. The streets are cobbled and narrow with a few gift shops and art shops.
If you don't like traveling by public transport and you have a car I would definitely recommend a vist. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed with this day out.

We even enjoyed the train ride which follows the coastal path for most of the way, with farm land
and open spaces away from the Motorways!

Beautiful safe beach with lovely places to eat, depending on your mood you can go up or downmarket. In September we had an amazing Lobster cataplana. The children's play area keeps children happy when they are tired of buckets and spades. The beach is long enough to walk along, and there is always plenty of boat movement within the harbour area.

Parking can be a walk away from the beach in high season.

We live just 5 min from this beach. It is calm & very beautiful. There are good restaurants here & bars.
We love living here in Ferragudo, after moving from the wine country in Calif. A GREAT place to retire.
