“nice appartment with riverview”
Reviewed July 29, 2011

We have stayed in Vitors village for two weeks last year. A large appartment with a seperate bedroom, small kitchen, compact livingroom. Bonus are the two terraces with a view on the sea, river and Portimao. Large swimmingpool with ample space and beds/sunloungers.

In Ferragudo thera are several nice restaurants, a easy walk down the hill (ther opposite diections is a bit harder!).

We hired a car to see the sights/cities, beatiful beaches, we preferred the beach at Meio Praia (near Lagos).

We arrived at Vitors Village and can confirm that it is all the reviews state.

By booking through Thomas Cook we got four nights in a one bed condo for around 65GBP per night. The resort is quiet, spacious and very well maintained - even at 100% capacity.

The staff were amazing - really helpful, welcoming and they run a good ship. We didn't try the restaurant which seemed a waste for us- but if we were with kids it looked good value.

There is a pool for all (ie including kids) and one for adults only. Only niggle, and I am not the first on Tripadvisor to say this, is the adult pool is unsupervised and so there are occasional invasions of young boys, lured by the vacant pool and jacuzzi. Scooby Doo moment - this hotel would be perfect if it not were for those pesky kids.

Other things- skyline bar is simply but actually LOVELY and like all staff, the barman was fab.

The rooms are big and very clean and we were very happy indeed. Note to management is to maybe get more UK channels than BBC news and Sky and also the beds are quite hard.

But these are minor points. Ferragudo grows on you - the restaurants and the people are great.

All in all we thought it was fab.

Room Tip: Ask for a river or pool view. I think they are probably the best.

Vitors Village was everything we hoped for. The apartment was spotless and very well equipped. Everywhere was very clean around the grounds and the staff were all very friendly and polite. The mini market had most of the things you would want, but after reading other peoples reviews about Lidl's we done a couple of trips there to stock up as it was a lot cheaper. Taxis are about 4 to 5 euros there and back but well worth it. Even though it was a self catering resort we had maid service every day which was a lovely bonus. Two nice pools, one large one with a kiddies pool, and for those who like us just want to chill and read, another one on a lower level. The village is about 10mins walk with some lovely restuarants in the market square. We really liked Portarade where we ate 4 nights and Fin Du Monde behind Toc Toc owned by a lovely English Jo and her husband Vasco. If you are looking for a nice quiet holiday then this is the place to go.

We stayed here in June for 3 days, around 90 Euros/night. The complex is new, so things are in good shape. I wouldn't say it's four stars though, more likely 3*, but nice. The one-bedroom unit was large, but with a tiny bathroom (2x2 meters about) where they had a tub/shower, sink, toilet, and bidet all crammed in. The living/kitchen area was huge, and the bedroom was fine, but very small storage space in the closet for the size of the unit overall if there's more than 2 of you. Very quiet area for sleeping. Safe rental is an extra 2.5 euros/day. The pool area was nice and on top of the hill so it got sun all day. The village is an easy 5 minute walk. Reception was helpful and friendly - let us check in early as we stopped first to buy groceries first and didn't want the ice cream to melt.

We stayed for a week in the middle of May, having picked the location from a list. Very pleasantly surprised. We opted for a room in the Hotel, rather than an appartment and it was perfectly adequate with a balcony to sit out and enjoy the evening sun. The accommodation was spotless as was the rest of the resort and the staff were extremely hard-working and friendly. We thought that the food in the Purple Restaurant was good, although it could have been hotter on a couple of occasions.
Fantastic weather - it only rained on the last day as we were leaving.
Would thoroughly recommend this resort which caters for all. If you prefer things a little quieter, the lower pool and jacuzzi area are set aside for adults, as under 18s are not permitted in the jacuzzi. The only small criticism is that this is not rigourously enforced and a sign at the top of the steps reminding guests of this would probably be a good idea.

I my wife and 2 year old son arrived back from Portugal on the 27th May, having spent 12 nights at Vitors Village.

When we arrived we drove along the main road passing some abandoned buildings on your right, looking at this as we turned up the hill into the complex in the dark filled us with trepidation. But we need not have worried, as the complex was great.

The complex is very attractive and set out well will several blocks around a central pool area (3 pools and a jucuzzi). The complex and rooms are very well equipped with plenty of furnishings, utensils and are very spacious with a flat screen (largish) tv, which had 2 English channels (sky news and bbc news), what else do you need when on holiday.

The staff on reception and in the bars where very polite and helpful and able to give information on the surrounding area, bus times, where to visit etc.

Farragudo is; as others have said a small fishing village, based around a small jetty and central square, Vitors is around a 5 minute walk (through the field opposite reception) or 10 minutes along the road.
It is a very small reasonably quiet picturesque place, no hussle and bussle, and about 10/12 different restaurants, most around the square, but several others easily findable.
The square was ideal to let our 2 year old loose in and he made friends with several other children he could play with and asked to go every night.

We visited Portimao, Canivero and Alvor, via walking, taxi and bus respectively all well worth a look. (It was 2.05 each on the bus to Portimao and 4.50 in a taxi, and can be walked in 30 minutes or so.)

There are several River beaches along the road into Ferragudo, but the main/best beach is Pria Grande which is about 2km along the road, or through the square and up and down a steep hill about 1.5km. We walked every time and it takes about 20minutes, it is as the name suggests a large beach, the times we visited there where very few people sunbathing so plenty of room. Also 4 cafe/bar/restaurants.

Its a great place to visit, very quiet and relaxing, not to much going on for those who want bars, night clubs and banana boats, but then you would go to Pria de Rocha (10 Euros in a taxi)

I really liked Ferragudo and the Algarve and we are planning to go again later this year, the Algarve is beautiful with undulating hillsides dotted with villas and pretty small towns and villages and a great coastline full of beaches, ports and fishing villages

Stayed for 5 nights over Easter in this lovely resort based on so many positive reviews and was not disappointed. It's a great place, we had a large 1 bedroom apartment overlooking the pool, which was well equipped and very clean.

Agree with others that Ferragudo is a lovely authentic village, very quaint and pretty.
The resort arranged for an airport transfer for us for Euro95 which seemed the going rate and the service was good, reliable. If you wished to rent a car then you could visit other places but we didn't feel it was necessary.

The resort has a shuttle to the three nearby beaches and we also took the public bus to Portimao and then to Albufiera one day which was easy, inexpensive and surprisingly punctual! (journey to Portimao about 15 mins, 2 euro each way, to Albufiera change in Portimao total time probably 1.5hrs, about 10euro return)

As we arrived late we ate in the resort's Purple restaurant the first night which was very mediocre (about 35euro, 2 mains and 2 glasses of wine) and I couldn't recommend it. We also had a fairly dreadful pizza from the pool bar one day (about 15 euro for a small pizza, small salad and beer) and I wouldn't recommend that either, the ice cream was ok though. The mini market was ok though. They made fresh bread each day, (but don't be late as they run out) and there was juice, milk, butter, eggs, cheese. Unfortunately they didn't sell any fresh fruit or veg but there are a few small shops in the village that do, or if you have a car or are wanting to cook Lidl isn't too far.

If you also arrive late send a scout down the hill, 2 mins walk, to see if the lovely Ferragood will still serve dinner or O Velho Novo just a little further to the right. We had great meals in both restaurants for about 50 euros for two with wine, water, deserts etc. and would recommend them both. We also really liked Fim du Monde (same side street as O Velho Novo, or behind Toc Toc from the main street) managed by a lovely lady from Manchester who happily served us dinner late one night and the food was very good (40 euro for mains, deserts, wine, water). We also ate at Portarade in the main square, run by another great host from Manchester, which was also quite good and a bit less expensive (about 35 euro for 2).

The 3 beaches around Ferragudo are very nice - Praia Grande is a large calm beach with several bars. Kalu was a great spot for sundowners with friendly service too.
Praia Pintadinho has a small cafe/restaurant as well but we only walked past. Praia Caneiros which is a very beautiful cliff backed beach has a fairly fancy (and expensive) looking restaurant and a bar window which sells drinks, sandwiches, ice creams etc.

You can walk from Vitor's through the village, along the pier, round the castle and to Praia Grande in about 20 mins, the resort will give you a map. From there you can walk around the cliffs to the lighthouse or Praia Caneiros as quickly or as slowly as you wish, but the route on the road is quite a lot longer.

We had a great time there, would certainly recommend and would return. Enjoy!
