We stayed here whilst walking Dales Way. We were really impressed with the great welcome we received and lovely food. It's lovely to visit pubs which greet you as friends and go out of their way to help you, I would definitely recommend to travellers.

We stopped here overnight during our Dales Way walking holiday. Great staff and friendly service. You'd better be hungry and worked up that appetite walking as the portions were substantial! And it was really, really good! I have food allergies and that didn't phase the staff at all. In the evening there was a pub quiz and the place was packed out with locals - quite a few of whom had also dined there ... that says a lot! The room was comfy and warm and again, breakfast was no problem. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Forester.

We were part of a larger group that were staying in Grassington as part of a Coast2Coast cycle ride.
Those that stayed ta the Foresters were very happy with everything.
The main plus point for the Foresters is the food.
Our party of 11 adults ate at the Black Horse on the first night, at the Foresters on the second, and a restaurant in York on the third night.
We came away thinking that the food in the Black Horse was pretty naff, and the restaurant in York was overpriced.
However the opposite could be said for the Foresters Arms. Monster portions, good value, but best of all the quality was great.
There were a few descerning palettes in our group who were quite hard to please, but everyone was very happy and gave a thumbs up.

If you want to visit North Yorkshire and need a base for a day or two then the Foresters is fine. It is a busy Public House in the centre of Grassington. Everything works, the beds are comfortable and the value for money is fine. The breakfast menu is also of good quality. So why an average score? I stayed on the top floor with friend (we were cycling around the area). When I entered the room it had a double bed and a single, I thought that is was fine for a one night stop over for two, but wondered if it was large enough to cater for a family. Then I realised what it was that made the place just an average - it has a set of rooms used for short stays by walkers and those touring around. For that purpose they were alright. I can not suggest what the staff (who were all very nice) can do to improve the place as it is what it is - an old busy pub with rooms.

Room Tip: Satirs to top floor could be a problem for some.

We were a group of 11 on a busy bank holiday weekend. The landlady and staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The rooms are basic but comfortable beds. The food is excellent and very efficiently served. Altogether what a bunch of walkers and painters needed after a long day.

We stayed there in 2010 and felt that the rooms could have done with some updating as there were very shabby and there was a distinct smell of creasy food throughout the pub and in our room which we found rather unpleasent. We had an evening meal there the food seemed a bit expensive for ordinary pub food and my partner had to wait that long for his food I had eaten mine long before his arrived and when it did arrive there was a large piece of paper/label stuck to the underside of his gammon!! staff did not offer a refund or an apology for this. We feel this pub lacked atmosphere within the bar area, however it's nice to sit outside and have a drink there on a nice day.

This pub is in a great location and the fact that is takes dogs is brilliant. However that is where it's good points end. The rooms are tatty and in need of an update and in our case dirty teabags and cups had been left by the previous guests and not cleaned up by the housekeeping staff. The carpet on the stairs that leads to the rooms is filthy and not a great first impression. Also the smell of fried food that permeates all the rooms and corridors actually made me feel nauseated and certainly put me off eating in the pub.
The shower in the bathroom appeared to have a mind of it's own and raged between freezing and scolding I would certainly not have put a child in there, despite it being in a family room.
The breakfast was equally disappointing. Breakfast is only served between 8.30 and 9am - no chance of a lie in. Service was slow and the hot food to an age to arrive. When it did arrive the meat used was cheap and under-cooked. It was so bad in fact that we did not even bother having breakfast on our second morning there.
We felt that it was overpriced and very disappointing. I passed these comments to a member of staff as I checked out and the landlady was there and able to come and speak to me about them but she chose not to. I feel that that says it all.
We were there for the Dickensian weekend so there were no rooms available elsewhere in the village - if there had been we would have not spent even a night at the Forester's.
