“Beautiful village apartment”

This gorgeous apartment is in the heart of one of the most quaint and beautiful villages in the Yorkshire Dales. Walking distance to a whole host of cafes, pubs and restaurants and some beautiful, independent stores.

We stayed for a weekend with two teenage boys. The stairs might be a challenge for the elderly or very young but otherwise, I would wholeheartedly recommend this home from home, as the base for a wonderful scenic experience. The apartment itself has everything you could want and more. Fully equipped with every mod con and packaged beautifully, with really lovely decor.

A 5 minute walk brings you to the picturesque Linton Waterfall and a bit further, leads you onto some fairly challenging stepping stones across the river (great fun for our teens).

Andrew and Hazel dealt with all our queries quickly, friendly and efficiently.

We would love to come back and use this as the base for another weekend exploration in the future.

“Fern House in Grassington”

Fern House was just lovely. Very well presented in all rooms and a really comfortable bed. I don't get why there is a second sitting room. It would be better set out as a bedroom. Grassington is lovely and a good base for travelling further afield. Had a great breakfast at the ECOcafe. Fantastic Butchers and Bakers too and lovely little independant shops. Great place to stay. I will definately go again. Nikki from Lincoln :-)

Liked best: The tasteful decor and furnishings.
Liked least: The upstairs sitting room. It should be a bedroom in my opinion. I travelled with my mother and we shared the same bedroom

Management Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review with five stars for everything but just four stars overall because of your puzzlement over the second lounge.
We are sorry to hear that you didn't see in our description that the second lounge does in fact easily convert into a second bedroom..,

Quote from Trip Advisor property description...
"*The second bedroom/optional lounge includes a comfy new chaise longue double sofa-bed plus a further fold-out single mattress. The super king-size bed can also be made into twin beds by prior arrangement."

At Fern House we mostly cater for couples who wish to stay together in the master bedroom. They then tend to prefer to have a relaxing second lounge available so they have plenty of space for the daytime/evening. When we do have guests who want their own rooms or when guests consist of a party of three or four people we definitely cater for that too (either by offering up to four single beds, a king sized bed and double bed, with an additional fold out mattress on the floor or any combination of the above).

If you do ever chose to stay at Fern House again please let us know how you would like the beds/rooms set up and we will ensure that happens for you.

Many thanks again for the feedback. We are pleased that you otherwise enjoyed your stay.

All the best,

Hazel and Andrew

“Perfect balance between traditional and contemporary”
Reviewed June 22, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Fern House is a split-level apartment that sets the minimum standard of modern / contemporary living in a traditional stone wall building.

The apartment is well furnished, decorated and equipped with crockery, pots and pans, electrical appliances, wi-fi technology and other equipment that are typically required. Also, having a dedicated car park next to the front door, within seconds from the heart of Grassington town, convenient stores, cafes and restaurant, local butchers and bakery, is a 'luxury'.

However, one point to note is that the washing machine, when operating during the spin cycle, is rather noisy and felt almost like a tremor in the kitchen. Therefore, this is likely to cause disturbance to the ground floor occupant and certainly when operating in late evening (post 10pm). Andrew / Hazel may wish to have a local handyman to inspect the drum of the washing machine for faults or the noise could simply be from the machine rubbing against the kitchen worktop and cabinet whilst spinning.

Despite the slight issue above, the our stay has certainly been a 'home away from home'. We wish to thank Andrew / Hazel for the hospitality provided and the ease of communication when arranging our stay.

Many thanks for your comprehensive 5 star review with comments and constructive feedback about the noise of the washing machine on spin cycle. We have now replaced this machine with a new super-quiet large capacity LG machine - photo on our facebook page, to view google search "fern house grassington facebook".

We would like to thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful house here in Grassington.

Although the weather wasn't that nice for our planned activities, we managed to do a cycle tour, we visited Skipton and a walk through Grass Wood.
Also a tour along Malham.
So we had a great time in these nice surroundings and loved the style of your high standard house.
We hope to come back someday.

It was a pleasure to stay in such a lovely comfy home in such a beautiful location. Grassington made a great base for our week in the Dales and Fern House offered superb accomodation. Everything we needed and so very comfortable, even our own parking space. Andrew and Hazel were very easily and a pleasure to deal with throughout the booking and arrival process. Can't recommend highly enough.
