“Very clean and modern”
Reviewed September 10, 2008

We stayed here for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The lodge is very stylish and welcoming (and so is the owner!). We stayed in room 7 which has lovely views, a huge bed, and is very warm when the radiators are turned on. The only drawback is the lack of shower and the small bath, but the bathroom is very nicely decorated. Someone else stayed in room 3, said that it had a lovely shower and a dual aspect which made it really light.

The breakfast is really good and got rid of a couple of hangovers. It is a great base for Grassington as it is virtually in the centre, and a good base for Wharfedale.

It seemed slightly pricey as we had to book 2 nights for the weekend but only wanted 1 night, but it turned out to be worth it.

Stayed for 2 nights beginning of September in one of the annex rooms called Vendale 1.

The room was large and comfortable with simple modern decor and a 6 foot very comfy bed, leather settee, coffee table and lcd tv with dvd player as well as the usual wardrobe and drawers. We also had tea/ coffee making facilities together with biscuits and a small fridge which contained fresh milk and a couple of bottles of spring water. We had a very modern en-suite which although quite small had both a bath and seperate shower cubicle, we were also provided with a couple of luxury bath robes as well as large fluffy towels.

The annex only contains 2 rooms and is a short walk from the main house where breakfast is served in a light and airy breakfast room. The choice was excellent and included the usual cereals etc plus fresh fruit salad and natural yoghurt. The cooked breakfast was locally sourced, tasty and well cooked and was served with fresh toasted bread.

There is a large guest lounge which contained a good selection of dvd's to borrow, however having our own small living area we did not use the lounge but it looked comfy. There is also a small private car parking area.

We found it very peaceful and quiet and a great location being only a few minutes walk from grassington centre where there are pubs, coffee shops etc. We dined both nights at the Foresters Arms where the food was good and well priced with generous portions. There are also quite a few good walks which can be done without the need to travel elsewhere and the lodge provided o/s maps which was a nice touch.

The only very minor gripe was the small fridge, although a nice touch if you were staying for some time was a bit of a nuisance as it woke me several times during the night when it switched on. (we did not want to turn it off incase it ruined the new carpet).

Our only real disappointment was that we could not stay longer.

This is an old looking building with a very modern looking interior. If you like the sort of building that doesn’t look out of place within a village in the Yorkshire dales, yet has all the mod cons of a modern apartment. i.e. laminated floors, flat screen TV’s, high spec modern bathrooms, then you will probably like it here.

Given its modern look and clean lines, we felt duly obliged to take our walking boots off at the front door and carry them in. The rooms were clean and tidy with tea/coffee making facilities including nice biscuits, mini fridge (if you are in one of the dearer rooms) and DVD player to go with the flat screen TV. There is also a healthy selection of DVD’s in the front room should you wish to stay in for the night. The room we occupied (No.9) wasn’t exactly huge but adequate enough for the single night that we stayed there. The beds were also very comfy.

The breakfast room is another room that is bright and clean with a decent breakfast of cereals and a fried breakfast of your choice. The stand-in managers that were running the place whilst we were there were very friendly and helpful and nothing seemed any trouble to them.

The criticisms that I would have of the Grassington Lodge would be with the bathroom firstly. Although it was well fitted out and clean, I felt some attention to detail was lacking. The wash hand basin for example was way too small and proved a little difficult to get a decent wash in the morning. We stayed there during a cold wet spell of August and the towel heater and room radiators were never turned on. This would have been useful as we did have some damp clothes that could have done with being dried in readiness for the next day. Also the fridge in the room seemed little unnecessary and wasn’t worth the extra £10 for the room which we paid. I would have been happy to stay in one of the other rooms without a fridge and saved £10.

All that aside, the place feels very pleasant, there are additional communal living rooms to relax in should you wish and the centre of Grassington is about 2 minutes walk away. Certainly worth staying in.

We stayed here for an impromptu bank holiday break and were very pleased. The location was perfect and the local village was a fantastic example of how the Dales should be. Our room was small but well appointed with everything we needed. The breakfast was A star – cooked to order and very filling!

High would recommend this place for couple wanting a relaxing break or a good base for walking in the south Dales (Kettlewell Buckden area)

We stumbled across this wonderful small guest house/hotel quite by accident and had not pre-booked. Diane immediately offered a small discount as she was pleased to get a last minute walk-in booking. We were given room 7 which has a super-king sized 6' bed with Egyptian cotton bedding, a nice view through the buildings opposite (including a very quiet, village police station) and small touches such as a pair of binoculars are provided by the hotel. A wall mounted widescreen TV with DVD player (and wide choice of films on free loan from the guest lounge on the ground floor) was a nice touch. Molton Brown toiletries, cotton dressing gowns, a fast speed hair drier, real coffee maker and tea pot along with high quality and tasteful room decor made this a real treat. Grassington is a lovely village with superb walking country around it. As this little B&B hotel is just around the corner from the main village, it is quieter and we highly recommend spending a few pounds more to enjoy the real comfort offered here

Stayed at the Lodge for 3 nights. Pretty much agree with the other reviews but we were surprised that Diane did not introduce herself to us or indeed ask who we were until I asked for the bill!! She did not check us in which I suppose is the time when introductions are made, but we wondered whether she would say anything by way of 'welcome' when she served us breakfast (we guessed she was the owner on the first morning). She did not and we thought we would wait to see what would happen and nothing did. Breakfast was very very good and the bread is delicious. Room 7 had a lovely view and all the facilities but if you are very tall and like to have a good shower this is perhaps not the room for you as bath is a bit small and shower is hand held and it may be a bit of a squeeze for a 6ft plus person!! Otherwise no complaints at all and hotel is in a great location.

Stayed at Grassington Lodge for 3 nights - loved it! Really special B&B with great little touches - huge fluffy towels, nice big bathrobes, DVD palyer in room with loads of DVDs to borrow in the lounge. And great breakfasts with helpful staff. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a more 'up market' B&B in the Dales - it's pricier than a lot of others, but I thought it was worth it.
