Stayed here as a couple in late December 2013.
The island with its one rental, self contained little house is a real find. Its located about an hours drive from the nearest town of Thrissur (that has good connections with a good sized train station) and is accessible by a small boat that collects you from the shoreline.
The area is wonderfully peaceful and remote and gives you an opportunity to see a relatively little known part of the Kerala backwaters. As stated in the other review, the rental included 3 generous meals (loved the spicy coated whole fresh red snapper and the fresh crab) and a complimentary 2 hour trip around the local backwaters in the hosts small (but perfectly adequate) rice boat.
Our host Suresh met us on the island and was keen to ensure that we had anything needed. I mentioned about the local elephant temple festival earlier in the year and he even rang around the local temples to find that there was an elephant ceremony that night that we could attend if we so wished (we were too tired to go but it was nice to have the opportunity if we wished) .
The cottage was one of our favorite stays of the holiday and one of the quietest nights sleep of our India trip.
