The hotel was once summer palace of maharaja of cochin. It's location near river is great far from city's noice. Good stay to tour around thrissur. Nice breakfast provided but room cleaning team was not that good.

.We came here mid November(2 days) between an exotic Kerala Tour covering serene & less crowded ,unexplored Kerala Properties. Antilog Vacations - (again after 1 yr) customized the tour for us at real cheap rates & we booked this 7 day sojourn online 1 month back from em

This place feels like the elixir of heaven packed in earthly material of stone, mortar and concrete and saintly services. Every piece of the experience there is worth capturing and storing to be remembered ever

The hotel is rebuilt version of an old palace. It is very beautifully managed and looks tempting from outside also. The hotel is exemplary of some world class service and hospitality.
It is surrounded by green plantation of beautiful flowers and well manicured grasses. A lot of animal life can also be seen around as the river Bharathapuzha (Nila) flows beside it. Some exotic birds and a variety of bird life is also seen. The exquisite scene of watching the elephants being bathed is refreshing scene for mind.

The hotel is managed and run in an impeccable manner by trained and professional people. The reception is very swift at handling all the guests’ affairs ranging from any whims they might have to any other inconveniences to be resolved. The staff is very jovial and pleasing and they work out of their ways to satisfy he visitors.

The food is lucrative as the chef sets a nice show on the table of Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes. He gives it a touch of Kerelan dishes. The breakfast is a buffet of healthy stuff. Also the view from the dining room across the river are picturesque. So soothing is this place to the eyes and the mind, one does wish to leave this place.

There is a spa centre and an Ayurveda centre who promise to give you relief from any kind of tension and do fulfill it.

The general manager, Mr. Praveen, is also a cooperative and helpful guy. He is very down to earth and often interacts with the guests.

So I recommend it to all. PLS go and experience the serenity of the place with the sincerity of the fraternity.

Our stayed at The River Retreat was pleasant but unremarkable. The rooms were spacious, cool and well cleaned but I didn't really get a feeling for the old palace that it once claims to have been. Some of the remodeling work in the building has been unsympathetic.

The views from the dining room across the river are tranquil and make breakfast and lunch and enjoyable experience - we saw elephants being bathed and plenty of bird life. Breakfast was a buffet affair so you could pick and choose from both Indian (Keralan) food or cereal with milk and toast.

The hotel is in a great location to visit the Kalamandalam school which was the main reason why we stayed there. The visit to the school was a highlight of our time. The dedication of both the teachers and the students to their art is inspiring.

Like so many Indian hotels of this levels they only provide you with a duvet and expect you to sleep with the air conditioning on. Thankfully we were giving a sheet when we asked and were able to open the window to sleep with the natural air temperature.

Our stay was for 2 nights in the monsoon. The experience was nice. Property overlooks a flowing river, but the room did not have a direct view. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. My kids were ill and their medication had to be refrigerated. Since the room did not have a fridge, Hariharan would come to our room every time the medicine had to be administered and then take it back for refrigeration. Big thanks Hariharan. :).

Even the restaurant manager was very cordial and friendly - even taking care of the kids while we dined.

Food was good too. Breakfast choice though limited was good.

Overall, a very pleasant stay. Really recomended.
