One of the best ferry services in the BC interior, especially when you ride it during late spring or early summer. You'll see amazing views of Kootenay Lake and the Selkirk Mountains. If you go in April and May, the snow topped mountains provided a stunning backdrop while you sail across the lake on this 35 minute journey. Best of all, this Ferry service is Free! During the winter, service is provided every 1 hour and 40 minutes and every 40 minutes during the summer (starting in June) when an additional Ferry is added. If you are traveling during the summer season, arrive early or be prepared to wait, wait times to cross from either end can be long, especially in the middle of the day. If you are looking to just sail the lake, you can park your car at either the Kootenay Bay terminal or Balfour terminal and just walk on board. Both ships provide lots of seating areas, although the Osprey 2000 is the much nicer ship of the 2 that sail the lake and is the only ship that had food services available on board. If you are sailing on a rainy or windy day, be prepared to bundle up, it can get quite chilly even during a summer afternoon. Overall, it's one of the best interior ferry rides and a great way enjoy some stunning scenery and it doesn't cost a thing! How cool is that?
