As a family, We stayed in the two self catering units next to each other, which seemed brand new. Beautiful interior, fantastic design and everything you need. A fireplace inside, great braai area and luxurious rooms and bathrooms. We usually try to stay at different guesthouses when visiting a place for the second time.... But, for our next visit to Clarens we are definitely going to check in at Brookeside House!! Thank you.

It was a pleasure to have stayed at Brookeside, albeit just for one night. Our room benefited from a wonderful outlook over a delightful garden and a beautiful valley towards the majestic mountains all around. It is clear that real thought has gone into the set-up here. As guests, we thoroughly appreciated the attention to detail and many small touches that had gone into the facilities that we enjoyed. Clarens is a delightful village, and we found people to be very relaxed and interested in their visitors. We enjoyed the experience of having breakfast in one of the many restaurants and cafes in the village - we had also dined excellently well the prior evening. The surrounding area is also fascinating - the Golden Gate National Park is so close by, and is surely a 'must' for visitors.

This was my first visit to Clarens - and what an amazing place to stay. I stayed at Brookside House for 8 wonderful days. Beautiful decor in Horeb room - overlloking a beautiful, well kept garden and of course, the glorious mountains of Clarens. The accomodation was always kept immaculately spotless - yet welcoming. From the home made rusks and decanter of Sherry - to a most hospitable hostess (owner) Maryna Cave - my stay was all I had hoped it would be. I loved the idea of having vouchers for breakfast. This meant I could choose from several delightful restaurants - to enjoy a variety of breakfasts (any time of the day). When I just felt like chilling - Maryna even has a library of DVDs to watch - at no extra cost. The entire atmosphere was so conducive to an utterly relaxing stay - I would recommend a visit to Brookside House to anyone who needs to break away - and rest. I did spend some time white river rafting (great fun - for 11km of river), quadbiking and horseriding in the mountains. These acivities - and a whole lot more, all within very close proximity to Brookside house. The views in this part of our country are truly amazing - this includes time spent at Golden Gate.

We have recently returned from a trip to South Africa, and while there we visited Clarens, and stayed at Brookeside House. I have to say I completely disagree with the previous review. Maryna is a remarkable host, our room was immaculate, with lots of little touches, like a bottle of sherry, and the home-made 'rusks'. My wife and I stayed the weekend, and enjoyed a gorgeous health breakfast on the veranda while enjoying the most spectacular views of the Maluti mountain range.

Clarens is truly beautiful, with a charmingly quaint village, far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I thoroughly recommend visiting there, and staying at Brookeside House!

Lovely room, lovely garden, lovely setting but no personal touch. Breakfast was in Cafe Moulin in town and very good.

I'm not sure if you could class this as a B&B but more just a room rental for the night.

Clarens as a town is was quiet and picturesque. Fabulous art galleries with some that were affordable.

Brookeside is a gem! - it's ideally located within walking distance of the town square and has wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. Maryna has made sure that all the little "extras" make your stay a treat - from the sherry to flowers to info on surrounding restaurants and activities. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and have all the comforts needed to deal with the cold of Clarens in July - underfloor heating and warm blankets! We will definitely recommend this B & B.
