Very well situated for pleasure and leasure. Comfortable rooms with all the amenities one requires. We love the rustick bar / breakfast room. Good views of the mountain.

Room Tip: Try to get a mountain facing room

What started out as an overnighter en route from Addo National park, turned into an excellent two night break. We wish we could have stayed longer.
Alan, Annabelle and Matt made us so very welcome and the very spacious rooms, located in a tastefully converted, traditional turn of the century residence, were absolutely first class. With many original features, such as Oregon pine floor boards and doors, it was the massiveness of the rooms and the attention to detail, that really impressed. The bathroom alone, with a walk in shower, and a roll top bath, was bigger than most guest house bedrooms we've stayed in!
Meals are served in the converted church that adjoins the residence. Annabelle's Karoo lamb shanks were delicious.
Alan is a top fly fishing guide and guru, but we simply enjoyed the local countryside and attractions. The hike up to the waterfall is not to be missed, so too a visit to the town museum. But, the jewel in the town's crown has got to be the Walter Battis gallery. Here you are privilged to see many of this enigmatic artist's brilliant original work alongside that of local artists. Don't go to Somerset East and not visit this gallery. It is a national treasure.
We liked everything about the Angler and Antelope, and Somerset East itself. We shall return.

We decided to spend a weekend exploring Somerset East and dicided to spend two nights at Angler and Antelope. We booked the selfcatering Fisherman's Cottage as we have two small kids and needed the extra space. The decision was spot on. I don't know when last I had such a great sleep. Goosedown duvets and mohair blankets, perfect for a cold night. Alan, the owner, showed me around the 4 start guest house and I was kinda disappointed that we didn't make the trip without the kids as the rooms were stunning. The only disappointment of the weekend was not booking a flyfishing outing in advance as Alan had prior an engagement and could'nt take me. Next time I will make sure and book.

The setting of the guesthouse is stunning, in a beautifully restored house. The rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. The air conditioning and underfloor heating (in the bathroom) ensured a pleasant environment in which to stay. Our hosts were fantastic people and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The true gem of our trip was the opportunity to explore the local fly fishing waters. Alan the in-house fishing guru, with his extradinory local knowledge and exclusive access to local waters ensured an extremely enjoyable and productive fishing experience which I will not forget. Highly recommended as a fishing destination or just a stop on the way to Addo National Elephant Park. We will definitely be back with friends to share this experience.

What a wonderful guesthouse in the country. We got exceptional service. It must have been the coldest night of the year, but under those wonderful duvets, nobody would have known. The bathrooms have underfloor heating whiich made bathing most enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Angler and Antelope Guesthouse to everyone for an outstanding experience. Looking forward to our next stay in July this year.
