What a place. My friend and I visited the Casa for a week during July 2006 and found it faultless i.e. there was no fault whatsoever and this is something we'd never experienced before, normally you can find some fault!!! These wonderful guys are obviously NOT professional hoteliers and therefore created something like 'they would expect' from a hotel i.e. rather more than you'd usually get. AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE.
One of my happiest memories will be of an alfresco picnic in the lovely gardens, surrounded by magnificent scenery and blissful quiet watching the slow sunset, simple pleasures and utterly delightful.

We stayed at Casa Portagioia over three nights in October 2006. It was absolutely lovely. Terry and Marcello are helpful, gracious hosts who've made a home-away-from-home for their guests in Tuscany. The inn is in a valley between two hill cities. The views from our windows were drop dead gorgeous. The rooms were clean and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was the most spacious that we experienced in our European vacation (with heated towel rack!). The inn is perfectly situated in Tuscany for day-trips to surroudings sights. The breakfast was great - mostly continental (cereal, fruit and coffee) but Marcello will cook up eggs for those who ask. If you go - be sure to ask Terry and Marcello to book a wine-tasting trip for you to Avigonesi - this was a highlight of our trip. Casa Portagioia probably the most costly hotel that we chose for our European trip - but it was well worth it!
This was the best hotel/resort experience I have ever had. The property is perfectly maintained, incredibly quiet and extremely beautiful. It is a little off the beaten Tuscan trail making it a perfect oasis from the throngs of tourists in the major centres. What really made the stay amazing though was the great hospitality and attention to detail from the owners, Marcello and Terry. Casa Portagioia was certainly the highlight of our Italian trip and we definitely plan to return.
