“Excellent hotel north of Copenhagen”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This is a splendid hotel, right on the coast, close to several beaches, just minutes away walking. Hotel is situated 30 min by car north of Copenhagen in beautiful surroundings, just close to the home of famous author Karen Blixen.

Room Tip: As far as I am concerned all rooms seemed of high standard.

Stayed in new block, simple contiboard layout but roomy and modern including in room ipad.
Peaceful and very clean. Just a shower and no bath. Restaurant not open in the evening! But just 10 minute walk to marina waterfront with plenty of good restaurants.
Good buffet breakfast and brunch.

I stayed here and paid a special summer rate for my room in the newly constructed park wing. For the price, this was truly great. The room had free wifi with iPad included, and the deal came with a free hot breakfast buffet which was great and had a view of the ocean.
The hotel is located in a large park area in the wealthiest area of Denmark. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the train station from where it's a 20 minute ride into the centre of Copenhagen. There's also a bus right outside that takes you to the station every 20 minutes. Across the road is a charming yacht harbour full of lively restaurants.
I found the receptionists, Karina and Heidi, very friendly. All in all, I really enjoyed my stay here. Both nights I could hear a pin drop. The other guests were certainly very considerate when I stayed there as all rooms in the new wing have balconies.
Only one thing I don't like about a lot of newly renovated northern European rooms that I've stayed in recently. I'm suspicious that this may be some new EU regulation that all doors to hotel rooms must slam close with great force so as to avoid any fire hazards?!? I've had the same in two German rooms lately and it's a bit annoying when people come and go.
In any case, I'll be back.

This was my best Hotel during my recent stay in Denmark. At 450k (Including Breakfast) it was fantastic value particularily for the lone traveller. Without asking I was upgraded to the new wing of what is clearly a conference centre. Lovely grounds overlooking the sea. There was a tranquil feel about the place. I would strongly recommend this to all travellers. The only single disappointment was the lack of a bar for residents - that said I was given a free bottle of beer when I asked the location of the bar.

Room Tip: Ask for the new wing.

We just stayed one night on our way back home to Sweden. The staff at the reception were helpful. Good selfservice with coffee and tea and also cold water. You can also borrow rainboots, bathcloth, bicycles. The room was very small, we had one facing the backside garden, but it had a computer installed. The bathroom is small which is good for an overnight stay. The beds are OK. Sitting outside eating a very good breakfast, with egg and bacon, ham, juice, cheese etc nothing was missed, was very nice, in the real good weather we had this summer.

Room Tip: If you go to the marina you will find a lot of different restaurants,

We arrived by train and the hotel is approx 1.6km from the station. There were no taxis waiting, so this is worth arranging in advance. The hotel faces the seafront in nice grounds and has a very elegant facade combining the original building with modern extensions. All the public areas are light, spacious with a mix of classic Danish and contemporary design. They seem well set-up for meetings/conferences with several free coffee machines/drinks stations.

In contrast our room was cramped and really quite basic. It would be okay for single occupancy conference delegates, but was disappointing as a double room for a leisure stay. There was also quite a lot of noise from the corridor and neighbouring rooms in the morning

Breakfast was served in a lovely bright room with views to the sea. The buffet was exceptionally good with very high quality and a great selection.

Check-in/check-out was efficient and breakfast was largely self-service, but there was a slightly strange feeling from having so little interaction from staff.

In the surrounding area there is the Karen Blixen museum next door and the harbour at Rungsted with lots of restaurants for lunch.

Room Tip: From other reviews there seem to be nicer rooms available, so check when booking.

When I arrived at the Rugstedgaard tired and hungry, I asked what time the restaurant opened, to be told that it was closed to guests that evening as there was a conference party .
I was immediately made to feel like a second class citizen. Hotels that advertise a restaurant (part of what attracts you to stay there) and then do not fulfil their promise should be prosecuted under the trades description act. There are times when all you want to do is check in , have a bite to eat and crash out , this was one of those times - disappointed. The rest of the hotel was ok rooms were basic and tatty - patched wallpaper that had been painted over ! I ask you would you do this at home ? What makes them think this is acceptable. Floors - wooded and gritty on bare feet, and you could hear guests in other rooms clip - clopping about as they returned from their conference party in the restaurant grrrr!
Only stay here if you have to , or are on a tight budget there are better places along the coast Skodsborg Kur Hotel and Hotel Marina

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook a central court yard where smokers gather to drink, smoke and jaw - annoying if...
