Description: The Crown Inn is located in the small village of Shorwell, just 5 miles from the centre of the Isle of Wight's principal town of Newport. Shorwell, a countryside village in the southwest, is a pretty, quiet little hideaway – the Post Office is its only shop! Throughout Shorwell you'll find thatched cottages, three impressive manor houses and a historic church. Customers at the village's Crown Inn enjoy an authentic country atmosphere, a log fire in winter and a rear garden complete with a trout stream. It's a welcoming destination for outdoor types who voted it Best Pub For Walkers in a recent Wightlink survey. PLEASE NOTE: As of December 2016 The Crown Inn is under new ownership and management, please ignore older images and reviews.

Been coming to the island for years and always found the Crown one of the best pubs to eat, sadly now only average and over priced. Understand the chef left last year which shows in the food. I had steak and ale pie which was served up warm and the veg was well over cooked, we are on the island for 2 weeks and won't be eating here again. Now using the Buddle Inn which is cheaper and serves much better food.

I ate in this pub in 2009 and thought it was great, sadly this time round it was awful. I ordered a macaroni and cheese and thought it was a child size portion it was so small, it was nothing brilliant and I did wonder if it had been made from a box you buy in the supermarket. The tatty bit of brown lettuce on the side of my plate was my salad. Too pricey for what it was. I couldn't believe the price of some of the food, this is a pub not a restaurant. Not sure I will go back, shame really because it's an excellent location.

We stopped here for a drink one afternoon, and were very impressed. Beautiful garden, fish pond full of carp which the children were allowed to feed. We went back a few days later, keen to try out the food. We were very disappointed, the service was terrible, miserable staff. We were served stale bread with our meal and the staff didn't even seem to care. Would definitely not visit again to eat.

We were staying in the wonderful Northcourt Manor in the village, and the Crown seemed convenient. The food took nearly an hour to reach us (2 burgers and chips/salad) and was quite frankly disgusting. The burger filling was tiny, and where it had been 'chargrilled' it tasted burnt and nasty, as if the grill needed a good clean. We ate a few of the cheap oven chips as we were hungry, and after waiting over 30mins to have a our plates cleared we informed the waitress that we could not eat our dinner. When we rose to pay we were shocked to see that we were charged for both mains, and when we suggested that 1 of them were taken off (very reasonable I think!) the woman in charge behind the bar was very rude and refused to. She did not even consult our waitress. She offered us a free dessert but by that stage we just wanted to get away from the frosty atmosphere. I would emphatically NOT recommend.

We hadn't booked but got a table for 8 in this pub, which is tucked away to the south of the Island. We all chose differnet meals, and the children did too. Food was well cooked, well presented and tasty. Service (just) ok
