My wife and I usually head west from Calais for our short breaks but this time took a chance and went east to Gravelines which is a fascinating fortified walled town well worth a visit. This B&B is actually in Petit Fort Phillippe about a mile or so down the river estuary and practically on the beach. There are 3 rooms all on the ground floor with en-suite facilities and a common breakfast room which also has all day tea and coffee available. M. Flandrin said he didn't get many Brits visiting but plenty of Dutch, Belgian and German guests. The place is clean, there are bars and restaurants within a short walk and at only €65 for 2 it's a bargain.
