“Excellent lunch”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

I recently took a large group of cyclists to this hotel for lunch and all of us were delighted. The 20 euro buffet menu was terrific value. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Despite the long delay in getting the square sorted, Gravelines is a super little town close to the ferry at Calais.

We needed a place to stay at the last minute and were sent here from Calais. Coming in as the second to last booking of the night we were met by very friendly staff and upgraded to a double room without needing to ask. The food was good, the bed comfy and the walls thicker than some of the places we've stayed in before! All in all we thought it was very good value.
The surroundings are gorgeous and we want to come back to do some exploring next time.

I agree with other reviewers regarding the pleasant location of this hotel, and the town itself, but our experience wasn't quite so positive.

The girl at reception was friendly enough, but otherwise the atmosphere in the bar/reception downstairs was not welcoming. There was a scattering of locals in, each apparently siting at a table on his own, some of them seriously drunk. The quiet ones just gave hostile looks everytime we walked in. The louder ones would shout something -- not sure what it was, and not sure if it was directed at us -- but it was uncomfortable with two small children in tow.

The other problem was the smell of sewage drains in the room. This was apparently due to the building works in square outside, so may just be a temporary problem.

All in all, it was OK -- not a complete disaster for the price we paid -- but we will look for somewhere else next time around.

We stumbled into this town by accident and went to the marina for a coffee. There we found a very useful tourism magazine with details of amenities in the area including this hotel. Our group of four turned up without a booking and they offered us rooms at a very reasonable rate. The rooms were clean and had all we needed. We found parking on a nearby side street. We were a bit worried about this but asked some locals and they said we would be fine parked there and we were. The highlight of our stay in this delightful town was our meal at Le Queen Mary around the corner. The hosts were friendly, coped well with our appalling French and served excellent food. It was full of locals so that’s always a good sign. We enjoyed a good walk after dinner, the moats are really something else. We hope to return to Gravelines one day.

We have stayed in this hotel several times as its convenient to come over late afternoon, stay the night and then carry on the journey the following day. It's only about 20 mins drive from Calais. We have always found it to be a very pleasant 3 star stay. The staff are helpful, the hotel is clean and the food in the restaurant is particularly good.

We arrived at the hotel and was greeted nicely by the lady in reception, we were then offered drugs by a local in the lobby and physically and verbally abused after refusing them. Everybody in the area stared at us because we werent local. The local vibes were miserable and very unwelcoming, we packed our bags and left within 2 hours and booked an early ferry home.

This small hotel on the centre place of Gravelines is very good when you take into account the 3 stars. The personnel is friendly and some of them speaks a bit English. The rooms are a bit old fashioned but good beds to sleep. The restaurant is worth wile to use certainly when you compare price with what you get. You can use Wifi for free. There is also a very friendly tourist office at about 150m from the hotel who ca help you with whatever question you have.
