We visited the museum after it had been closed for refurbishment a few years. It was absolutely worth it. Lace making and the Haute Loire are intrinsincally linked and it very apt that this beautiful museum should be in Brioude. What makes the museum so interesting and lively is that apart from the beautiful pieces made a long time ago, they show a large number of pieces that have been made by the very best lace makers of the late 20th and 21st century - pieces, some 3-dimensional, with interesting colours, new designs and techniques - these women really are on top of their game and it's so pleasing to see their work shown to such good effect. The building itself is one of these lovely old hotel particulier of which there are many in Brioude and it's in the centre of town, every easy to get to.
