To start with the positive, the room (number 9) was ideal. Not modern - the bathroom shower had an old- fashioned mixer tap in the bath, for example - but nice and light, airy, and comfortable, and very quiet at night. Wifi even worked there, although we had been told it wouldn't. The garden is lovely, and the swimming pool quite large and nicely done. And at 95 euros a night the room was good value.
Now the negative. We arrived on a Monday, so perhaps the proper chef was having a night off, but the basic menu, at 26.90 euros, was not good. What was advertised as a starter with tuna tartare had what looked and tasted like tinned tuna. And they wouldn't let me have one menu and my wife another! Desserts were OK. Service was poor...we were left a long time, not served an amouse-bouche (others were, but they were having other menus), and they were very reluctant to offer a carafe of water rather than bottled water.
The worst was breakfast: 13 euros for not- freshly squeezed orange juice, very poor baguette of the kind you might buy in a supermarket half cooked, tasteless croissant and pain au chocolate. Note that Demi pension is 55 euros for this miserable breakfast and the 45 euro menu. Suffice it to say that the second night we ate out (the brilliant restaurant at the Abbé de Noirlac) and took breakfast en route (in the logis in Sanscoins, 8 euros, good bread and croissant, orange juice and yoghurt too).
