“Sea Dive - Coron, Philippines”
Review of Sea Dive Resort

Sea Dive Resort

I used Sea Dive as my dive center on a recent trip to Coron. The entire operation from sign up thru guided dives to return was 1st rate. Registering was reasonably easy and the rental gear I used in excellent condition. An unexpected service - all of my gear was loaded to the boat and unloaded for me. The dive boat was in great shape, easily accommodating divers, tanks and gear. Our guide gave a through briefing before each dive, water entry and exit were super easy and all employees courteous and most helpful.

The associated restaurant served good food at reasonable rates.

We stayed in a room with shared bathroom and fan for 450 php/night. All the rooms with fan had a really bad sweatysmell in them and our room happened to be just next to the toilets so we heard everyting, I mean everything.
The aircon rooms may be nice, I didn't see them but depending on the price we paid we atleast had a bed and that is what you can expect out of 450 php.

The restaurant wasn't that nice either and the whole place seemed a little dirty.

Here are some pics of our room http://beammedown.blogg.se/2013/september/dag-15-coron-och-helvetet-pa-jorden-under-regn.html

We booked a island hopping tour for 3 persons with Sea Dive and shortly after leaving the harbour our small outrigger boat hit another small outrigger standing in the bay. One of the 2 drivers decided to walk on the side floater which got stuck with the other boat in order to push it away. But as our outrigger was small we quickly capsized and all fell in the water with all our stuff and the boat falling on top of us. Fortunately it ended up only with minor bruises and a dead ipad which fell in the water as one of us used it to take pictures. Only after a painful and lenghty argument with the (supposedly american) owner we managed to get a fair compensation for the Ipad, thanks to the help of the Philippino manager of the dive shop. Amazing arguments first mentioned by the owner were: they were nice enough to provide us with a boat / he is not the owner of the boat which had an accident (only they get a commission to sub-contract boat trips) / we should not have taken valuables with us (though every tourist hangs around with his camera / wallet..) etc... Bottom line: the accident could have been much more serious and we could have lost much more. We just wanted a fair compensation for our material loss (which BTW we could have claim through our insurance if an official cost guards report would have been made, an alternative we suggested but was not the preferred option). Hence if something happens to you and you loose all your belongings you are on your own. Thus you may opt for a more reputable boat provider, make sure you get registered when leaving the harbour (a document your boat driver makes you fill in and sign) and if possible ask the provider if he holds any insurance....

We were hosted in the resort four nights. The diveboat picks you directly from the hotel, so its very comfortable. Very professional divemasters choosing diferent dives acording divers skils. Food in the resort is good and not so expensive but much better and cheaper if you look around for local restaurants.

Spent 3 days diving with Seadive. One of the bigger dive boats in Coron (Seadive Blue) plenty of space but a bit slower than some of the others. Lunch and drinks provided which was good. No boat briefing was given prior to departure so wasn't clear whether O2, first aid kit etc. were available. DMs were a friendly bunch, boat crew very friendly and attentive but DMs could have paid more attention to safety and customer needs. Eg customers should be brought up when highlighting 70 bar remaining instead of being taken back into the wrecks. A bit more consideration needs to be given to whether its appropriate to take new OW divers into wrecks at 30+ meters. No Nitrox available and some dives were conducted with 8 mins of decompression time resulting. Perhaps more consideration should be given to tailoring the dives to customers needs and the conditions, rather than just following pre-set dive routes in the wrecks. Overall a decent experience, but improvements are needed to make this a true 5 star resort. This place is home to Coron's only deco chamber, which is probably just as well ;-)
