“Amazing vegetarian food! Super accommodating staff! GREAT location!”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

We notified the staff in advance that we are vegans (strict vegetarians). Many hotels in the Philippines have simply given us fried veggies and rice, but Balingsasayaw went way above and beyond, preparing us something different and creative at every meal. There was an amazing array of food, and an amazing quantity of it too! Staff were very helpful and we had our own personal tour guide each day out on the boat. We got an all-in package and were satisfied with the value. I am planning another trip there soon.

We availed of an all-in package, including full board meals and all activities.
Rooms: We stayed in the rightmost family villa. Both the two rooms are big, clean and well-maintained. Nice view of the sunrise and sunset. Nice bathroom with complete toiletries. Our villa has a nice veranda with table and chairs and resting chair.
Location: Great view of the sea and the Coron Islands. Can go island hopping in the Coron Islands anytime since they're just in front of the resort.
Food: Very good food during lunch and dinner (esp. the big fish), limited choices for breakfast.
Resort: Very relaxing, has a hammock area, provides small bancas for paddling around. You can swim in the beach and see fishes and starfishes. There are 2 floating cottages for snorkelling, with very nice corals and fishes underneath. Has own snorkelling equipments and new life vests. There are a lot of trees and the resort is of beachfront, but every morning we see someone sorting and cleaning out the seaweeds/garbage brought by the waves. We went up the hill and were able to pick some “sineguelas” and tamarind fruits along the way.
Service: Excellent. Staffs are all very friendly and always ready to provide assistance. Communicates with us to know what we want and suggests itineraries based on our interests. Instead of bringing us to beaches, they opted to bring us to places excellent for snorkelling after knowing that we were fond of seeing corals and different fishes.
Over-all: Very much satisfied. I can very well say that I made the right decision in choosing this resort. Availing of the all-in package was also a very good decision, we did not experience any hassle at all. As we were leaving, my husband is already asking me to come back to this place again. Indeed there are other island resorts but are quite secluded and are too far from the Coron Islands and the other nice spots/places.
Coron: I recommend snorkelling in the Lusong Gunboat, Coral Gardens and Marili Island. The snorkelling areas in the Balinsasayaw Resort are also very good.

Room Tip: If you're a family, choose the family villa in the rightmost side.

Cleanliness:

Positive: Rooms were clean and tidy
Negative: Our drain was smelling after an animal died in there

Food:

Positive: Portions are big, and a variety of dishes were served
Negative: No choice of what's available, no menu, you have to eat what is brought to the table Breakfast was pre-made and cold on our last day, I contracted food poisoning as a result of eating some of the fruit

Service

Positive: Staff tries to be helpful, and solved the drain issue. Boat personnel are very skillful even in harsh weather.
Negative Language barrier with some

Overall appearance, maintenance

Positive The Resort appears well from a distance Nice views of the surroundings
Negative As soon as you reached the destination, it's more than clear that the place has lots of potential, but lacks general maintenance and care. It's everything but appealing and our view was obstructed by overgrowth and foliage

Value for money

Negative Boat services to town is 500 pesos return, more after 7pm at night. It's relatively easy to find better service and pay less, it's not worth a hundred dollars or more per night

THE GOOD
1) Perfectly located on a separate island, this resort offers free transportation to/from the airport or other arrival points.
2) The rooms/cottages were kept clean, nice view towards the ocean. All rooms are well located and all have ocean view.
3) Staff is very friendly and eager to help and assist for any issue. We had a problem initially with our 1st room and they changed with another one immediately.
4) Food is really good for lunch/dinner, ok for breakfast, not spectacular.
5) You can organize for various island hopping excursions directly with the resort. We took two of them out of a total of three. The price for these activities is very high considering that on the main island you can find with half the price, however consider that the activities are exclusive for your group only (we were only the two of us) and we had a personal guide. The Coral Garden excursion is a MUST (1h boat ride)
6) The resort offers a free kayak that you can rent for the day or several hours and go visit the floating houses around the island, see the corals, etc.

THE BAD
1) Rooms need improvement, especially the bathrooms and the toilet, looks very cheap and poor quality.
2) The beach needs improvement and a lot of neatness, there is quite a lot of garbage, and I suppose this could be easily arranged
3) No Internet/WiFi possibility in the rooms, and the WiFi at the reception is almost null (it is a 3G shared WiFi over a smartphone...imagine yourself)

DO NOT FORGET
1) To withdraw enough PHP. Credit cards are not common in Philippines, especially Palawan.
2) To take a lot of sun lotion if you are skin sensitive as we got sun burned 1st day, the snorkeling activities will kill your skin :) or just take snorkeling cloths.
3) To arrange with the resort before your arrival to pick you from the airport.
4) Remember that there is no electricity during the day on the island, and the fuses do not support hungry appliances like hair driers / straighteners. The resort offers full day recharge of your phone/computer/camera through solar panels at the reception area.

The region of Coron has many places to see both above and below the surface of the water, this place is perfectly located to see most of it with ease. Its also only 10 minutes by boat to Coron town and therefore barely 40 minutes from Busuanga airport.

We've stayed here several times now. Inline with other reviews I would describe the resort's appeal as being about it's intimate quietness, the friendly but unobtrusive staff and the sense of space the spread out cabins provide you with. The food is fresh and wholesome, great if you like well prepared fish. Although there is not really a menu to choose from as such, you can happily advise the staff what your preferences are and they will try their best to oblige; just remember you are in a remote place. As it's all fairly laid back, feel free to play your own music at meal time and you commonly find yourself conversing with the other guests.

You are less than a 10 minute boat ride to 'twin lagoons' and 'barracuda lake', my advice would be - book a boat through the resort to leave early after breakfast and you can get there before everyone else arrives, very special! This resort is well located for so many of the dive sites and I would recommend booking this through the resort. Snorkelers - I would urge you to borrow one of their 'traditional canoes' (complete with outriggers) and paddle out to the 'floating cabin' about five minutes away - wonderful coral garden and array of smaller reef fish.

Finally, things to consider - electrical power operates between ~6pm and ~7am only; the beach here is gravel, although there are hammocks around to relax in but no pool. Dining area is laid back and you can buy drinks, but there is no manned bar as such. Its a great place to visit the area from and superb value. I would recommend it if you are travelling as a group of friends, are a couple or as a family.

Room Tip: Cabins higher up have less unobstructed views of the sea - less tree branches, but the views are pre...

We just came back from 4 days 3nights holidays on this island. It was really good. We really enjoyed it. From the staff, food and accommodation, it is really worth it. It is a great place to spend your holiday. Peaceful and very relaxing. Most of all, we are very greatful to all the assistance and attentiion given to our disabled sister especially Elena Enriquez . It became a memorable and fantastic holiday for us.

My family (2 senior citizens and 3 adults) spent 3 days here. The best things about the resort are the service and the location. We took an all-in package and had a tour boat all to ourselves for 2 days, with very attentive but unintrusive staff (1 guide and 2 boatmen). The guide (Marvin) was very knowledgeable about the area and adept at assisting senior citizens during hikes and swims. Hotel staff were also polite and friendly. The resort is located off an island around 20 mins by boat from Coron town. It is very private, ideal for a quiet holiday. It is also very near all the sights on Coron and nearby islands, so being there saved us a lot of boating time. The resort facilities are good and the food is a lot better than we expected. The resort owner also gave us personalized service. Tap water was from a deepwell, so it wasn't clear water, and electicity is only available at night, but that didn't really bother us. I would definitely consider staying at this resort again.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up on the hillside have a view of the beach unobstructed by trees.
